We can move it into the way-out-there outyears by donating some of our excess destroyers to the Filipino Navy. I read last week that a Spruance class destroyer built in the 1980's was being scrapped. This sounds like a waste of resources to me.

Probably already do. Probably won't matter when the Chinese bluewater Navy shows up.

The last thing the Philippine Navy needs is an 8,000 ton destroyer. There is no money to operate it. I knew a Filipino Annapolis grad who returned home, then spent the rest of his career hiding from his old American classmates. "They might ask me to show them my ship." The ship was a WW 2 era Cannon-class DE. It never left the pier. It was in such pitiful condition he was always afraid they would try to take it out to sea. One day, the ship sank at pierside in a storm. The crew were eternally grateful. "Probably saved all our lives."
