Bush Sends Congress Draft Iraq Resolution Thursday

Wed Sep 18, 7:00 PM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush will send the U.S. Congress a draft resolution on Thursday that the White House hopes will authorize him to take military action against Iraq if he deems it necessary, a Bush administration official said on Wednesday.

"It's a draft, but as the president said, we are going to work closely with Congress on the final resolution," the official said. Asked when the White House would transmit the draft to Congress, the official said: "tomorrow."

The official declined to go into details about what the draft resolution would say, but he noted that the White House has previously said that Bush specifically wanted language that would allow for the use of force if he deemed it necessary.

You guys have got to hear this! Brit Hume on Fox was interviewing someone in the know about this new inspection team called UNMOVIC. This man told Brit that as the rules are written now, inspectors must first go through sensitivity training and before they investigate a place, they must provide a list of questions to Saddam and wait for the answers. This man told Brit that some changes need to be made before this group goes in....well, I should say so. Can you imagine the President's reaction to this behind closed doors? I'm sure it could not be repeated in mixed company!!!

I'm cublicle bound--which is probably a good thing for the safety of my TV.

The inspector idea is a non-starter. This is a good example of why. This is a dog and pony show for the appeasing left, but won't get in the way of Bush and team.

Let's Roll. (I trust the timing to the poker player from Midland.)

I agree with both of you. I just started laughing when I heard about the sensitivity training, picturing President Bush receiving this information. Maybe he said, "Some people just need killin'"...

Like you, I trust our Midland man. He is not one to mess around with when he means business.

Saw that. Poor thing. Better than "Monica" or "Lewinsky" though. Those are known by the world. And will be for decades to come. Ahhhh. Legacy.....

Good point! At least Clymer is more or less an inside joke.

If you're refering to Dash-hole, he looks like a goblin had extra-curricular activities with a sheep no one wanted to dance with.

This news is great and just what I expected after Puff Daschle's comments last week.

Puff, feeling the heat, said that Congress couldn't discuss the Iraq situation because Bush hadn't sent a resolution to discuss (like that ever stopped them before).

After I heard that pitiful excuse, I expected Bush to call Puff's bluff and send something up pronto. Bush didn't disappoint me.

Checkmate, Puff.

I heard yesterday on local radio that Das-hole basically admitted they couldn't hold off a vote on a resolution until after the election. In other words, he'd basically thrown in the towel, realizing that he is "fighting City Hall".
