Saint Paul - The Coleman for Senate campaign today released their newest poll showing challenger Norm Coleman leading Paul Wellstone by four percentage points, 44 to 40. Six hundred likely voters were surveyed for the poll conducted September 8th and 9th. The margin of error for the poll is +/- 4% points.
One thing is clear---a 12-year incumbent asking for 6 more years is at 40%. That should be a clear signal to Wellstone that hes in big trouble, said Ben Whitney, Coleman campaign manager. We are pleased with the numbers but were not letting up until we see victory on election day.
Wellstone has outraised us every step of the way, and hes outspent us 3-1 during the month of August, said Whitney. After spending $1.5 million on tv advertising, one would think his numbers would have improved. Its clear that Minneostans are looking for new leadership in the Senate.

We are working our asses off up here to get Wellstone off the federal payroll. The Coleman sign in my front yard is about the size of a billboard. My wife is raising Hell about it, and she can bitch till the cows come home. I am doing my part, home life be damned.

Poll Ping!

Keep up the good fight. One of the things that I hated about leaving Minnesota was not getting the opportunity to vote this lying piece of dung out of office. While Norm isn't the most conservative of candidates, he is infinitely better the Mr. Welfare. I voted for Norm for Gov. & hated to see him lose. Time for Minnesota Republicans & conservatives to step up to the plate & reverse the tragic shame of sending Dayton to Washington (I really hated to see Rod Grams lose that one).

Thanks for the ping! Good news, as far as can be taken from a partisan poll - it's basically in line with the other polls released by his campaign. I won't feel real comfortable about this one until I see a new independent poll, though. Based on anecdotal evidence, I was starting to get a sense that Wellstone might be pulling ahead a little bit.

Thanks for the info. Still way too close for comfort, but I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed. We must rid our state of this pestilence....

Was Wellstone one of the senators that said he would only stay for two terms?, remember when several were elected on term limits (self imposed. I am asuming his political rival is a republican, is this true?

Yes he was. He promised to go back to teaching after two terms. I think there was an editorial in the Red Star today by someone calling him out...

Just assure your wife what a gem you'll be if Wellstone is sent packing. And thanks for fighting the good fight...

Didn't Wellstone promise to only seek 2 terms?

For a guy that's for the "little people," I'm amazed with all the Wellstone signs in the yards of mansions on Lakes Calhoun, Harriet and The Isles... /sarcasm

I read that Daschle doesn't want a vote on Iraq-to protect Wellstone, who is obviously going to vote against it. Is Wellstone a peacenik/pacifist against any conflict or does he have a large Muslim/Dem constituency ? Or is Wellstone just pro Iraq?

Wish we get a thread running comparing all the polls in place---
This news is encouraging. Maybe, just maybe....
