200 SOVIET NUKES LOST IN UKRAINE

A nuke scandal is gathering steam

Pyotr Simonenko, the leader of the Ukrainian Communist Party released a sensational statement on Wednesday. In his words, there were 2400 nuclear warheads in Ukraine, although the export of only 2200 of them was officially documented. Simonenko claimed that nobody knows where 200 Soviet-era nukes in Ukraine are.

The official reaction followed the next day, but it was a rather weak one. Deputy chief of the Ukrainian Army Headquarters, Nikolay Goncharenko, declared that Simonenko’s statement regarding the disappearance of the nuclear weapons from the territory of Ukraine was absolutely groundless. The high-ranking military official stated that all weapons of the trilateral agreement concerning the execution of the contract for strategic offensive arms had been handed over to Russia. Ok, but how come the leader of Ukrainian communists counted 200 nukes? It seems that the nuke scandal will continue.

Whether or not you listen to Pravda. The fact remains that a number of Nuclear Weapons are unaccounted for. This is a recient event, as according to the Clinton Administration, all of the Weapons in Russia WAS accounted for. What happenned between then and now?

Terrific! Atomic bombs lost by imbeciles and possibly in the hands of morons. It's a good thing God is watching the store because we certainly aren't...

The Soviets were accomplished liars.

They exaggerated everything.

Most likely, they never had the number of weapons that they reported.

They're not lost. The nukes are just conveniently tucked away somewhere for safe keeping in case the government needs them.

We have a winner.

Anybody have any hard information on how long nukes stay "fresh"? for example, how long does the neutron initiator remain funcitonal without maintenance? If they're tritium boosted, how long does it take for the tritium to decay to the point where it doesn't boost the yield?

Anybody?

"...according to the Clinton administration..."
Not a credible source, IMO.

If Clinton said all were accounted for, then OF COURSE it must be true...like everything else he said. (sarcasm)

I read a prophecy yesterday that gave a vision of IRAN dropping a nuke on the east coast of the US, destroying seven states. We need to really pray about such possibilities. I can't say this is a true or false prophecy, but we aren't out of the woods yet and may never be. We need to put our faith and trust in God, not in Bush or any other government leader. No matter what happens to us, we need HIS peace throughout the tribulations we are going to face more and more as time wends its way to the end.

If they're tritium boosted, how long does it take for the tritium to decay to the point where it doesn't boost the yield?

Tritium has a half-life of 12.3 years, and decays to 3He4. 3He4 tends to poison the chain reaction and will cause a "fizzle" yield in relatively small quantities. At a minimum, almost 50% of the tritium has decayed in these nukes; assuming they were actually manufactured instead of being "paper" warheads to make the factory manager look good, these things probably won't achieve a nuclear yield.

Of course, a dirty bomb (rad-waste) or a fizzle will still make a mess.

Thanks for the ping, TaRa. This seems to be an example of Ukrainian fuzzy math.

We need to put our faith and trust in God

Galveston hurricane, 1900:
The rambling wooden buildings of St. Mary's Orphanage stood on the beach... They housed 10 Roman Catholic Sisters of the Incarnate Word, 93 orphans, and a workman. By 10 o'clock Saturday morning, the water was already 3 feet deep...as the storm worsened, the sisters took the children to the chapel on the first floor of the girl's building. They stayed there praying until rapidly rising water drove them to the second floor...the roof of their building collapsed...the sisters tied the children together in groups, then to themselves, attaching ropes to their waists...Ninety bodies were found nearby, including those of two of the sisters. One nun still had nine small children tied to her body; another was holding a child in each arm.

I have faith in God, but I expect my government to do something more than sing hosannahs.
