A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

ONE OF FR'S FINEST
"Constitution Day" Freeper since 5-14-01 Edgecombe County NC
We are pleased to honor today a young FReeper who derives his screen name, Constitution Day, from the fact that he was born on September 17 which is Constitution Day, the Day that the delegates to the Constitutional Convention met for the last time to sign the document they had created; a document that has sustained our government and nation for the last two centuries. How neat that, almost 200 years later, a future FReeper and Conservative Republican was born.
ConstitutionDay is a proud North Carolina native whose family has been in NC since it was a colony (before the Revolutionary War). when they settled in what is now Durham County. Various ancestors and some of his living relatives have fought in every war ever waged in our nation's history and Constitution Day is particularly proud of that fact.
His interests, other than Free Republic, include his family (first and foremost), rare books, semi-automatic rifles, classic cars, geneology, NC State football & basketball, history, archaelogy, and the War of Northern Aggression. (The last one made choosing a background and color scheme for this Profile fun).
Constitution Day is an active member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, having had at least seven members of his family to fight for North Carolina and the Confederate States of America. He is also an active NRA member who thinks the government needs to be reminded that there is absolutely nothing ambiguous about the phrase "shall not be infringed".
"FREEPING"
Like so many FReepers, Constitution Day lurked before he registered at FR. Once he signed up and began posting on FR, he began looking for fellow North Carolina FReepers. He soon began corresponding with mykdsmom. They developed a NC ping list and posted articiles on NC politics and current events regularly. In the last year or so, the "ping list" has grown to over 100 names, all of whom requested to be on it.
Constitution Day helped start the Freep of Chapel Hill, NC's Town Council in September of 2001. They had made a local restaurant owner (and Gulf War vet) remove a banner which read "God Bless America - Woe Unto Our Enemies." (Chapel Hill (NC) makes restaurant remove banner) Diverse viewpoints voiced in Chapel Hill NC (Reaction to Freepers E-Mails)
The next Freep the North Carolina group participated in was the 2002 "Tar Heel Tea Party" . This is a part of a series of annual events organized by the NC Chapter of Citizens for a Sound Economy and the John Locke Foundation (www.johnlocke.org). It's time to FReep the NC Legislature! (Tar Heel Tea Party Rally on 4/08/02 in Raleigh, NC) Post-FReep report on "Tar Heel Tea Party"
.
"NORTH CAROLINA CHAPTER OF FREE REPUBLIC"
In June, 2002, Constitution Day organized a new North Carolina Chapter of Free Republic. Announcing: North Carolina Chapter of Free Republic! Presently there are about 35 members in various parts of the state. Constitution Day is Chapter President, mykdsmom is Vice-President and callisto is the Piedmont-Triad Chapter leader. The first (and, so far, only) meeting was held at Howlin's home. The next meeting is scheduled for October in Raleigh.NC October Chapter Meeting
Future plans for the chapter include volunteering at the GOP booth at the NC State Fair, developing a website (thanks to callisto), and helping to raise the profile of the Free Republic Network by becoming more active on issues within North Carolina.
The membership consists of a broad cross-section of North Carolinians whose political agendas are quite varied. The chapter is considering choosing issues that will resonate with even the most politically inactive and uninformed voter, hoping that even the most "mainstream" citizen can become outraged when cities propose, for example, to limit the number of pets a person may keep in their own home. Number Of Pets May Be Limited In Rocky Mount By coming out on the side of FREEDOM, even on mundane issues, they hope to raise the profile of the NC Chapter in general, the Free Republic Network in particular, and the conservative cause as a whole.
"EDWARDS WATCH BUMP LIST"
A running theme that Constitution Day, and the NC Chapter, have kept going is the"Edwards Watch" bump. They post and index articles related to NC's junior Senator, John Edwards, who is held in very low esteem by NC FReepers. Many remain convinced that he will run for the Presidency or Vice-Presidency in 2004 or 2008. They feel strongly that this would be an embarrassment to their state, and a disaster for our nation.
"IN HIS OWN WORDS"
"I am the son of a union member and a public school teacher, so naturally I first registered to vote as a Democrat. As I got older and began to see how the world actually worked, as opposed to how people would like for it to work, I drifted more and more to the right. I would say that EX-President Billy Jeff Clinton and his co-EX-President Hitlery finally pushed me over the edge. Their support of nationalized health care, gays in the military, the siege at Waco and the numerous other shady activities they were involved in (including the Lewinsky affair) made me realize that the Democratic Party no longer represented the things I believed in. Since 1994 I have supported the GOP and have not voted for a Democrat in years." "I am very grateful to Free Republic for providing me an outlet for my viewpoints, and my wife is too! I am one of the most opinionated people that I know, although I don?t always exhibit that online. FR gives me a way to vent without yelling at the TV. Though I was already a voracious reader before finding FR, this site has given me the opportunity to read news items and other information that I would have never seen otherwise. I believe I have grown as a person, and as a citizen, through Free Republic." "I also want to thank all of the Freepers who have privately given me some excellent advice on the North Carolina Chapter. You all know who you are, and I truly appreciate your assistance."
FRegards,

Congratulations to Constitution Day!
Many thanks to all of you who participated in yesterday's thread featuring NattieShea. That was one happy FReeper when she went to bed.
Aquamarine, I downloaded the lyrics to "I Hope You Dance." She understood them perfectly of course. As I said, there were tears. If you have a "play list" of more like it, please let me know.
God bless you all, and God bless our Free Republic.

It is wonderful to read all about you today, CD, and to join others in praising you for all your FReeper activity.
I want to say a special thanks to you for sticking it out in the public school system. That takes great fortitude, an attribute you share with all your veteran ancestors and with the founders of this great nation.
Happy Birthday!
