The Security Cabinet approved Prime Minister Sharon's "Jerusalem envelope plan," including his recommendation to incorporate the tomb of Rachel the Matriarch within the capital's jurisdiction. As a result, the holy site will be on the inside of the new security fence, which is scheduled to be erected in the upcoming months. In addition Sharon announced that a new road will be paved in order to allow easy access to the tomb.
Sharon also ordered his ministers to start preparing for the reopening of the Atarot airport in northern Jerusalem. The airport was closed at the start of the Oslo War when it was deemed too dangerous for motorists to access.

At last! Someone made the correct decision NOT TO SURRENDER another Jewish holy shrine to the Musselmaniacs.

A Palestinian man walks past Rachels Tomb in Bethlehem, Thursday Oct. 10, 1996.Rachels tomb was a sight of gun battle between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian police officers during last month clashes. The Israeli Security Cabinet decided Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002 that Rachel's Tomb, a disputed West Bank site holy to both Jews and Muslims, would remain under Israeli control. Jews believe the biblical matriarch Rachel, wife of Jacob and mother of Joseph, was buried at the site, located in Bethlehem about 500 yards from the city's border with Jerusalem. Muslims say there was once a mosque there. (AP Photo/Eyal Warshavsky) |
It was always a Jewish shrine. There was never a mosque there. In 1841, Sir Moses Montefiore built the synagogue which exists to this day. This was decades before "Zionism." The Turkish authorities would have never allowed him to build a synagogue if a mosque had ever existed there.

Just make sure they relocate the Arab cockroaches on the other side of the security fence.

I am totally against the idea of ANY part of Jerusalem being ANY part of a Palestinian capital. The savages. Im a Catholic, and I dont want any part of the Christian or Jewish sites controlled by filthy Arabs. The thought of those barbarians occupying the Church of the Nativity makes my skin crawl. Temple Mount is a Jewish Holy site, near a muslim site, I dont know how the Jewish faithful tolerate such a profane presence. Israel is a Jewish State, not a muslim one.Get the Muslims out!!

Since the tomb is there, the mosque must have predated her death making it the oldest mosque in history.

It's typical. Moslims have destroyed or built a mosque on top of every religious site of every culture they have ever invaded from Pakistan to Egypt to Turkey.

When Israel lets these bums mess with the Temple Mount. Making their insane excavations trying to turn it into one huge Mosque..... Muslims take this as weakness and try to grab even more.
Jihadist Muslims are always testing and probing for vulnerability and cowardice.

It is time we prevented these Islamic terrorists from studying in our country. If they or the world doesn't like it TOO DAMN BAD!
This is our country not theirs!

Dispite the fact Rachel was not a Jew, it's good to see the shrine remaining in Israelite hands where it will be taken care of.

A small example of your ignorance:
The Western Wall became a permanent feature in Jewish tradition about 1520, either as a result of the immigration of the Spanish exiles or in the wake of the Turkish conquest in 1518. Thenceforth all literary sources describe it as a place of assembly and prayer for Jews. According to a tradition transmitted by Moses Hafiz, it was the sultan Selim (Suleiman) the conqueror of Jerusalem who recovered the wall from underneath the dungheap which was hiding it and granted permission to the Jews to hold prayers there. No Muslim sources about Jerusalem bear any evidence of the Arab interest in the Western Wall. The nearby area became Muslim religious property at the end of 12th century, and from 1320 there is mention of the Moghrabi Quarter established there. Nevertheless, Jews were able to hold their prayers at the Wall undisturbed.
Before you make such baseless remarks about people read a history book or two please.

Um, the Temple Mount is the site of the 1st, 2nd, and (hopefully) soon to be 3rd temples. It's not even mentioned in the koran whatsoever.
Pick up a Bible and it's all over the place.
