I don't think this was intentional. The reality is that this was a set-up by the liberal media from the get-go. The strategy is called divide and conquer, Democrats play it better than anyone.

But Simon's signature is on the original Log Cabin Club questionaire. If he signed it without reading it, he's an idiot. If he read it and signed it, but now is backing down, he's a weasel. If someone on his staff forged his name, that person should have been publically fired.

I still think Simon would be a better Governor than Davis, but he's running a terrible campaign.

I don't disagree with you, Simon has run a horrible campaign. That doesn't mean we should abandon him if we agree with his policies (or most of them).

Get off the negative and on with the positive:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 3, 2002

SIMON SAYS OPTIONS MUST BE PROTECTED IN STATE EDUCATION SYSTEM DAVIS
FAILING TO DEFEND HOME SCHOOLING IN ASSAULT BY STATE BUREAUCRATS

Contact: Mark Miner/(916) 447-8121

SACRAMENTO - Gubernatorial nominee Bill Simon today blasted Governor
Gray Davis for failing to stand up for sensible educational options for
California parents and children.

"Make no mistake - there are many good public schools in California,"
Simon said. "But a complete picture of education in California includes
charter schools, private schools and home schooling. California needs
to accommodate all these different options because no two children are
the same."

Simon said that a recent memo by the California Department of Education
declaring home schooling an unauthorized substitute for attendance at
public school is a prime example of state education bureaucrats run
amuck.

"The fact of the matter is, home schooling is turning out well educated
kids," Simon said. "Often times, parents are choosing to teach their
children themselves only because the believe the circumstances of their
own child demand special attention.

"These are parents who are making huge sacrifices, often giving up their
careers, because they love their children and care deeply about their
education," Simon said. "These individuals should be celebrated and
applauded, not threatened with litigation and even criminal penalties."

Simon said Davis' silence during this "assault on home schooling" speaks
volumes about the fundraising-driven governor's true commitment to
expanding opportunities for California school children.

"When I'm governor, I will improve our public schools. That is my
promise. But at the same time, parents who believe the best choice for
their child is home schooling will be allowed that choice," Simon said.

"I want to give parents every opportunity to educate their children.
That's why I will fight for improving public schools, increasing the
number of charter schools, and also for home schooling in California."

Can't you see the Davis campaign/media sycophant's hand in this? This is a tactic of the left to divide the right and it works every time it's tried. It works because conservatives are so violently reactive and sensitive to the slightest threat of our candidates not running a perfect campaign.

You hit the nail on the head! I feel sorry for Bill Simon. The Republicans stand in line to stab him in the back. I don't get it. Whatever. Go, Simon!!!

Well, actually, it's worse than that and nobody wants to talk about it. I call it the secular Repubs vs the churchy Repubs. Unlike the grand alliance in 1994, a deep and abiding schism has crept in to the party and by 1998 it led to the fiasco in CA. It raised it's ugly head here in the Sierra region east of Sacramento during the last primary and of course it showed up in the Riordan/Simon thing as well.

It's a deep seated fear by both elements that the one will destroy the force of the other. The only thing they have in common is the distaste for Demonicrat victory, but they can't help themselves... They discourage each other in this stupid pitched battle and let the Dems win the wars.

Both sides are fiercely determined and completely lose sight of the common enemy. They sometimes even play right into the hands of the Dems with their overly emotional reactions and inordinate fear of yet another disappointment, to the point of panic!

It's hard to watch! Especially when you have friends on both sides. It's like having a civil war while trying to fight off invaders. It's insane and it has to stop or we'll be left in the dust for decades!!! We must make peace with ourselves. Outsiders are having too much fun with this emotional battle within the party. We could win, if we'd just stop it, even now!!!

Neither side has anything to lose by dropping this fanatical zeal and refocusing on the real enemy. Ronald Reagan's 11th commandment used to hold this rivalry in check, but the gloves are all off now and it's killing all our best chances for success.

Dear Saundra Duffy,

You have been, from the beginning, unabashadly optomistic and positive for Bill Simon. It's heart-warming. Good on you, I wish the entire Republican and Christian-right political apparatus followed your lead through this entire campaign.

Best wishes ...

Meanwhile, here's what "Gay" Davis is up to:

SPECIAL LEGISLATIVE ALERT
Davis to sign three abortion bills tomorrow in San Francisco.

SB 1301 - Abortion made easier
AB 2194 - Forced abortion training for gynecologists/obstetricians
AB 1860 - Emergency contraception

The first message below is from our friends at Women's Resource Network, following that is an alert sent by CARAL (California Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League), a pro-abortion organization.

FROM WOMEN'S RESOURCE NETWORK:
Dear Friends of Women's Resource Network, California,
CARAL sent this out today. It saddens my heart that California has come to a level of complete disrespect for women by not only passing these bills, but now on the verge of Davis signing them into law and the general public seems to support this man! Please call, write or fax Gov. Davis's office and tell him we respect Life and the women of California and to please veto SB 1301 which lowers the standard of medical care for women making it easier for abortion providers to turn a profit at the expense of women and their health.

If you live in the San Francisco area please attend this bill signing ceremony with signs that say "Women Deserve Better than Abortion" and show your support For-Women, not abortion providers and so called pro-"Choice" abortion pushers.

Dana Serrano
Executive Director
Women's Resource Network, California

Bill Simon is pro life! DUMP DAVIS! GO, SIMON!!! For victory & freedom!!!

Hi Saundra, let me make my position clear.

I have supported Bill Simon from the beginning. I continue to support Bill Simon, and will try to do what I can to help him get elected.

With that being said, I am still dismayed that his campaign could make such a boneheaded move. In the best of all worlds, it will be very difficult to pry Gay Davi$ out of the governor's mansion. Simon doesn't need this kind of mistake. It only makes things harder.

I am meeting a friend for lunch today. She is a pro-family-values independent who told me yesterday that she will probably not be voting for anyone for governor. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers today as I try to convince her otherwise. Thanks.

Bill Simon doesn't need to trust me, I need to trust Bill Simon. I have done nothing to Bill Simon except to react to what he has allowed to happen in his campaign.
