Why the 2nd Amendment Matters

“I clearly remember a conversation that I had with my mother when I was approximately seven years old. I saw some anti-American demonstrations pertaining to Vietnam and I asked my mother why the United States was so bad.

My mother told me that the United States was the best country in the world because the people take care of themselves so the government does not get too big and too corrupt.

All we need is a driver's license to travel anywhere in the country.

Our taxes are less then 20% versus 50% in communist and socialist countries such as the Soviet Union and China.

We protect ourselves and have the right to do so. No other country would dare attack us on our own soil because most people have guns and automobiles.

We have a government of the people and for the people. The majority rules so that most of us are satisfied. We cannot please all the people so a democracy makes it possible to please the majority. This is the best form of government.

Most of these positive traits of America have been destroyed by selfish politicians, lawyers, lobbyists, financial institutions, and large corporations, as well as the propaganda pandering mass media. It amazes me how so few can destroy so much so fast.

Anyone who wants to disarm the American citizens is truly self-serving, corrupt, and fearful that the American nationalists will wake up one day and put their foot down.

Weapons are often the vehicle of truth and peace because they are available when all else fails and most people are willing to work things out in a positive way to avoid using them or having them used against them.

The nationalists and the citizens of the United States of America are the true defenders of freedom and the Constitution of the United States. The right to bear arms was put in place so that our government would remain small, non-bureaucratic, non-tyrannical, and pure. It had nothing to with hunting.

Anyone who wishes to disarm the citizens of the United States is a fool and irresponsible. No sound argument can be made. Just remember that medical mistakes and automobiles are involved in the injuries and deaths of a much greater number of people.

Anti-gun legislation is not for the people of the United States. Anti-gun legislation is a selfish effort to preserve and increase the power of the soulless tyrants that seem to be running rampant within our government today.

Instead we should pursue a root cause analysis of why so many people are so upset, frustrated, angry, and selfish.

The first step is to denounce a consumer economy. We are not consumers. We are the people of the United States. We are the defenders of the Constitution. We are supposed to be the government and we are supposed to defend freedom at all costs.

Our Founding Fathers were some of the most brilliant people ever to walk the Earth. It is unfortunate that our children will never be taught the truth within our failing public school system. Are you starting to get it now?

I remember a time when I was a student and we were taught a course on rights and responsibilities. The responsibilities portion was deemed the most important part of the course because without responsibilities for our rights our rights would be taken away.

Responsibility for our rights is no longer taught by the school system to our children. Attorneys and politicians will not allow it. They would rather destroy the nation for their own financial and political gain.

We are in deep trouble. We should be worried about terrorists. We should be scared to death of many who hold office in Washington as well as with our state governments.”

We all need to cut and paste this into letters to congressmen, local politicians and maybe even local newspaper editors. Let them know exactly how we feel.

You ain't said nothing. Very good post. There are a few minor points that'll get picked apart here, but very good overall.

Thanks - just sort of stumbled on it. Thought about doing a call in to the local rag with it.

We cannot please all the people so a democracy makes it possible to please the majority.

And the Bill of Rights protects the minority from the tyranny of the majority on key issues of liberty. Amen.

The founders held democracy in very low esteem, that's why they gave us a Constitutional Republic. If we would remember that the Constitution rules, instead of a poll number, we would be in much better condition, imho.

The founders used the "tranny of the majority" to describe democracy. There's even a DoD document from the 50's denouncing it as mob rule. Anyone who preaches the virtues of democracy has desire for unconstitutional powers.

"tranny of the majority"

This is why Jefferson is quoted on making a statement about democracy being preserved and the blood of tyrants being shed.

"Democracy will soon degenerate into an anarchy, such an anarchy that every man will do what is right in his own eyes and no man's life or property or reputation or liberty will be secure, and every one of these will soon mould itself into a system of subordination of all the moral virtues and intellectual abilities, all the powers of wealth, beauty, wit and science, to the wanton pleasures, the capricious will, and the execrable cruelty of one or a very few." - John Adams, 1763

"Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security, or the rights of property; and have, in general, been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths." - James Madison, Federalist no. 10, 1787

The Constitution is the champion of liberty, the villian is the corruptable passions of men. -ChumleytheWalrus

Don't worry about that small detail. It'll be taken care of by the new federal agency just as soon as possible. Just a few details to work out.

Nothing to worry about... just move on along.

FALSE. You don't need anything to travel in the USA. However, if you want to drive; you need a Permit. If you want to fly, you need Identification. If you want to take a train or the Bus, you will USUALLY be required to show identification. We live in a land of Freedom but do not have the liberty toexercise that ability.

Our taxes are less then 20% versus 50% in communist and socialist countries such as the Soviet Union and China.

FALSE. Extremely false. Russia is a straight 20% max flat tax. In most US states you pay 15% Federal Tax PLUS 15%(included matched contribution) in Social Security Tax, and on average a 6% State Tax. Additional hidden taxes and realestate taxes, savings taxes and such add enough additional taxes to raise the average yearly tax burden for a non-excluded citizen to over 62%. America is the ONLY country in the world that taxes multiple times, and in some cases even four times over.

We protect ourselves and have the right to do so. No other country would dare attack us on our own soil because most people have guns and automobiles.

I would like to believe this. I really would. But the TRUTH is that we were attacked, and they did it while living in the USA.

We have a government of the people and for the people. The majority rules so that most of us are satisfied. We cannot please all the people so a democracy makes it possible to please the majority. This is the best form of government.

We do NOT live in a Democracy. We live in a Republic. A republic is what frees us from the tryantical majority. Unfortunately, this was changed via the 14th amendment.

Most of these positive traits of America have been destroyed by selfish politicians, lawyers, lobbyists, financial institutions, and large corporations, as well as the propaganda pandering mass media. It amazes me how so few can destroy so much so fast.

I agree.

True. Worded carefully and well stated in the Preamble to the Bill of Rights.

Anyone who wishes to disarm the citizens of the United States is a fool and irresponsible. No sound argument can be made. Just remember that medical mistakes and automobiles are involved in the injuries and deaths of a much greater number of people.

The first step is to denounce a consumer economy. We are not consumers. We are the people of the United States. We are the defenders of the Constitution. We are supposed to be the government and we are supposed to defend freedom at all costs.

This is complex. But thank FDR for getting rid of the gold standard, and Lincoln for violating the tenth Amendment for over 50% of the citizens here in the us.

Our Founding Fathers were some of the most brilliant people ever to walk the Earth. It is unfortunate that our children will never be taught the truth within our failing public school system. Are you starting to get it now?

But don't you see? Women like this aren't getting with the program. If there are more like her, we won't be getting behind John Ashcroft, and we won't have house-to-house Army searches for Muslims, so that they can all be thrown into concentration camps as enemy combatants.

And we won't support our valiant state motor vehicle administrators, who want to turn the driver's license into just such an internal passport. Of course, those people don't yet want to have our religions noted on those licenses, so that Muslims can be seized and deported if they dare try to apply for one. So they're not all perfect. But they'll get in line behind the War on Terror eventually, like good patriotic Americans.

{/sarcasm OFF}

Not actually. The Bill of Rights was intended, by explicitly denying certain powers to the Federal Govt., to protect the States and the People from the Federal Govt. It is liberals, who, through the phony "incorporation doctrine," having imposed absolutist interpretations of "free expression" (formerly "freedom of speech, and of the press") and "separation of church and state" on the states, counties, and townships, whereas the First Amendment mentions only "Congress," have made the Bill of Rights into a shield for wackos and wierdos--i.e., the presumably creative and oppressed minority against the presumably conventional and oppressive majority.

Well, I was thinking of the 2nd Amendment, which, quite frankly, I would very much like to see "incorporated", so that states like California, which does not have a keep and bear clause in the state Constitution, can be kept from passing every loony assinine gun law that the legislature can think up.

He didn't. He said "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure."

Not democracy but rather liberty.
