They also had a story about how employees are suing their employers (Pepboys and Walmart were mentioned) because they are forcing hourly employees to work time off the books...and not paying them. Apparently the lower the managers keep payroll....the more they are rewarded with bonusus. I just want to mention that my sister is a salaried employee and is required to work 10 hours over her 40 hours a week every week for the next 3 months. It's mandatory. 10 hours.

In boom times, when it's hard to find good workers, companies give raises. In bad times, they give pay cuts -- only they call it "uncompensated overtime". It's easier to get a worker to go for putting in extra time, than to get him to swallow a reduction in pay

Tell your sister to get down on her knees and be thankful she has a job. A lot of good people don't, these days, and have been looking for a while.

I think that alot of the people that don't have jobs, don't because they don't like the salary offered. If they needed a job, they would take anything. Like I would have too if I got layed off.

Good point. When the economy was booming several years ago, employees thought nothing of leaving their employers in the lurch for a better opportunity. They would dangle job offers in front of their bosses to get raises or they would play job offers off each other to further increase their starting pay or gain additional perks and benefits. All of that is well and good. But now that the shoe is on the other foot and the employers are holding the cards, the employees don't seem to like it all that much.

She should be lucky to have a job. I am certainly thankful for mine and if I had to work 10 extra hours a week to keep it, so be it.

I do believe that is exactly what her employer is telling her. These rules are thought up by mid-level managers with the intelligence of apes. Its always about making themselves and their pockets look better.
