Atheist Seeks End to Hill Chaplaincies (Michael Newdow at it again)
Washington Post ^ | August 30, 2002 | Jim VandeHei

The California atheist who sued to remove "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance now wants to kick the House and Senate chaplains out of Congress.

Michael A. Newdow, a lawyer and emergency room doctor, this week filed suit in federal district court in Washington contending that it is unconstitutional for taxpayer-funded chaplains to pray in Congress and minister to lawmakers. He wants the court to prohibit the House and Senate from employing spiritual chaplains, who are paid by Congress to lead prayers, counsel members and perform other religious tasks. Chaplains make as much as $147,000 per year.

“…But unfortunately, we haven't heard the last of Newdow. He's now on a crusade to neuter the English language. Newdow claims that he wants to replace the gender-specific pronouns "he" and "she" with "re", and "his" and "her" with the word "res." Is re out of res mind? Before Newdow delves into another 4000 hour marathon of legal preparation to address this new issue of gender bias on the part of the Queen's English, perhaps I can recommend a marathon training group or a trip around the world--one which might enable Newdow to see what things are really like in countries where Judeo-Christian values aren't upheld.”

Anyone who agrees with this guy, fine, we live in America and obviously it is your right. But you must know by now that you are in the minority 6 percent. If you agree with this guy and you are a conservative, you are probably a much lower percent.

I think “re” should move to China with all of “res” friends…

Newdow, who says he "absolutely denies the existence of any Supreme Being," claims he applied for the jobs of House and Senate chaplains, and was passed over.

Uh huh. That makes as much sense as Christopher Reeve whining about being "passed over" for a job kicking field goals.

Just for one moment, I would love to be a seagull "passing over" this guy.

wassamaddahim? ain't good enough to make a living at either job? or is he simply a jerk?

I would say "the latter," but it seems worse than that -- I think maybe he is under the sad misimpression that if there is no God, he's the next best thing.

So how is it that you know that Newdow doesn't pay chid support? Just wondering...

Actually, that is an example of somone insulting someone who happens to be religious.

As I said, there is no one so blind as one who will not see. Clearly this language is not the language of love. The clues as to the beliefs of the poster are evident in the language and the origin of the post. First, the reference "Either way its delusional morons all the way down" is a typical belittling of religion from someone who is not religious. The second big clue is the address "http://www.skeptictank.org/hs/lott-gay.htm". Skeptic is another buzzword for the atheist. Third searching the site will produce the following bit of information about the person who allows posts like the one I cited, namely; "I've always been an atheist and a skeptic though my good fortune hasn't been the result of a lack of trying by friends and family to turn me into an unthinking, gullible zombie." I believe that is sufficient to display that the post meets the criteria for something you say you have never observed, "I haven't seen any examples of atheists hating religious people,". Those words that Caroline uses are of hate not love.

hate   Pronunciation Key  (ht)
v. hat·ed, hat·ing, hates
v. tr.
    1. To feel hostility or animosity toward.
    2. To detest.
  1. To feel dislike or distaste for: hates washing dishes.

Atheism is a Religion of Peace

This is the testimony of her son

I was born into a home of near constant rage and violence. My mother never married my father or my brother's father. As a result of my mother’s constant angry outbursts she could not hold down a job and she, my brother and I lived with her parents and my unmarried uncle in a small row house in Baltimore, Maryland.

My grandfather had never filed an income tax return and most of what he did do during his life was illegal or ill advised. He had no savings. My grandmother read Tarot cards and sent out demons by burning human hair. My uncle kept hoards of pornography in his room and my mother filled the house with statues of mating animals which she worshipped.

My mother accepted the communist doctrine when I was about ten years old and from that time on there were socialist and communist study group meetings in the basement of our Baltimore home.

I was taught that because there was not God there was no such thing as right or wrong. My mother told me it was better to be a homosexual than to be a Christian. She taught me that the most important things in life were the physical pleasures of drink, food and sex.

For many years I lived the life I was taught. I drank a quart of vodka a day and by the time I was thirty I had been married twice. I lived only to eat, drink and have what I thought were sexual pleasures.

But a time came when the women and the booze no longer gave me the happiness that my atheist mother told me they would bring. I was consuming so much alcohol that it no longer got me high. I started using marijuana and other drugs to supplement the alcohol which had betrayed me.

At age thirty I began to realize how empty my life had been. There were no people in my life. My only friends were cigarettes and booze. It was that realization that led me on my search for God. I had seen every evil in the world and now wanted to see the other side of life..

I turned to a Twelve Step Program to stop the drinking and there found my first awareness of a loving God. Yet that God had no name.

In a novel, I read the story of the great physician, Luke, and I yearned to have the relationship and love of God this man had, but I did not know how to reach God. On January 25, 1980, as I slept in my apartment in San Francisco, the Holy Spirit came upon me and directed me to seek the truth in the Holy Bible. This was the one place I had never looked for the nature of God, for it was this very book that my mother had removed from our nation’s schools by her lawsuit in 1963.

Now awakened by the call of God I drove to a downtown discount department store and there found a Bible under stacks of pornography. The gay checkout clerk laughed at me for buying a Bible.

But, it was in this Bible that I found the truth about Jesus Christ. The truth that sets every man free. That truth is that Jesus had paid the price for my sin so I could be reborn and be a new man and have the gift of eternal life. I learned that this gift was mine for the asking. All I had to do was repent of my sins and ask Christ into my life as Lord!

My life began again when I accepted Christ into my life. Your life can begin again as did mine. Just say this simple salvation prayer:

" My Father in heaven. I repent of my sins and ask your forgiveness. I believe Christ died as a sacrifice to pay for my sins. I want to be born again and become a new creature in Christ. I now ask Jesus into my heart as my Lord with the promise of living for Him."

Once you have said this prayer cast all the sinful things out of your house and your life. Call a church at once and tell the minister about your decision to follow Jesus. Attend church the very next possible service.

William J. Murray Evangelistic Association, P.O. Box 77511, Washington, DC 20013 The above is the text of a tract entitled He Fought Christ. To obtain printed copies please email.

He knows the consequences.

I have a theory on that. The ones who rant and rave and carry on really do believe in all that Christians claim, but they don't want to submit themselves to God. This is their way of shaking their fists at Him.

I think everyone who believes in God has been in a situation in which they wished they were truly uncertain, so there wouldn't be any guilt in giving in to carnal inclinations.

Your more asinine atheists -- such as Newdow -- sound like their moment of epiphany was daring the Almighty to strike them down with a lightning bolt, and felt free to do what they pleased when nothing happened. I don't hate such people -- I pity them.

Kind of ironic that the atheists spend so much time, energy, & money fighting against something that they don’t believe exists, huh?

the rest says establishment is prohibited as well.

none the less, people can pray in public life if they chose... government can neither prohibit nor establish a religion... and any attempt at either is an abridgement of free speech and the first amendment.

the guy is an idiot.
ESTABLISHING no religion = the establishment of a NON-religion as the official position of the government which is just as much an "establishment" of a type of religion, as it would be to demand that all members of the congress pray, to buddha, or krishna, or jehova, or christ....

On the other hand the guy is doing us a favor, reminding us how important it is for us to ram our liberties into the public arena where they just might offend folks.

I love that there is no right "to not be offended" at what others choose to do... In america... our ability to offend, is part of our freedom to speak, believe and worship as we choose, and it is a joy to watch folks go ballistic over our right to do whatever we want to... even when THEY ARE ACUTELY OFFENDED.

He proves a very useful idiot.
Every case he raises, establishes a new precedent... and so far, it all shakes down our way.

The U.S Supreme Court declared chaplains constitutional in 1984. What with the times being what they are they just might have second thoughts and ban chaplains altogether. You just never know.

If they are getting 147k per year, then they should be banned.

Good heavens, he DID say that, according to the Wash Compost, which I had to hit to confirm...it's the last paragraph.

How Hitler-esque. What more do we need to prove the man is a dangerous phycopath, so we can reverse the damage he has done to our country?
