I, too, do not want to be insulting or argumentative - but I reread the article to see how many I could argue with.
I really don't know about the tallest building, but who cares
The military - I really don't know. I suspect many of us don't really know - we just hope and pray.
Manufacturing - just look around you
Infiltration - just look around you - or come to Texas and I will show you around
The male and female issue - it seems true in the younger set - not so in my age group.
The gun issue - just let President Bush decide that is what he wants done, and you will find a lot of Republicans that will search every corner of their minds to find a reason it is a good thing. It can be done and without much trouble. Just look at everything else that has been done.
The 'papers' - , as an American, just try to open a bank account, get a driver's license (in Texas), get car tags, get a loan, get a job, buy or sell real property, go to college (and the list goes on) without a SS card. The older cards plainly stated 'Not to be used for identification purposes'. Not so the newer issues.
I am not sure if you meant agreeing with the statements made you spineless or unimaginative, or if not being able to see the truth in some of the statements makes you unimaginative, spineless and behaving like an ostrich. The last statement is my take on it. Some of us just don't want to admit what is staring us in the face. It is too frightening and if we admit it, we must also admit we are helpless or we must do something about it - or not.
Re-read my reply. I did not state that the presented items were refutable or untrue. They are all arguable. I merely took him to task for giving up without arguing.
It is possible to lose an argument.
They respect the remaining few.
COOL!. I'm game
Weak military...Russians - I don't know about the military. I'd guess that, citizen-to-citizen, they'd kick our asses pretty solidly. We'd run out of scrappy, resourceful, mean fighters long before they would.
NAFTA, the joke's on us - is this even debatable?
Your papers, please - Can't do much of anything without providing SS# and/or DL# and/or credit card.
Guns - guns won't be "taken away." Barring a major shift in public opinion, gun ownership will simply be driven underground by successive generations of increasingly hoplophobic pantywaists and their totalitarian handlers. There will be no sweeping gungrab...it'll just become increasingly dangerous to own guns.
Infiltrated by everyone in the world and your leaders do nothing. Those who want to get in will do so. - There's nothing going on that contradicts him here.
Lazy and fat watching TV no time to see about the world around you. - Most people I know spend most of their free time in front of the tube.
Women respecting men - Increasing number of men aren't Men so much as mere human males. Successive generations of urbanization are ensuring this. TV culture and education establishment treats men as the either unwitting boobs or bloodthirsty animals worthy only of scorn, fear, and suppression.
I thought about this myself but I love the History channel so much I just can't bring myself to do it.
Remember the utopian socialist model? The free health care, the great education? Almost all of the European countries have moved markedly to the left over the last 30 years. Not surprisingly, quality of life and individual happiness have fallen.
LONDON (Reuters) - More than half of Britons would like to emigrate from their homeland, fed up with the price of living and terrible weather, and would prefer to live in the United States or Spain, a survey published Monday said.
Did you get that!? More than half? That is a huge number of dissatisfied people. Yes the world hates us......and would move here in a New York minute if given the chance.
I like the little part about the weather. I lived in England for 12 months, and the weather is indeed a shortcoming, but that's not what's driving this poll. The Brits have had (many) hundreds of years to get used to the weather. No, the problem is that expanding government programs have led to huge levels of taxation--with little or no benefit to the average taxpayer. Liberal income redistribution schemes have removed incentives for success, while high per capita immigration have eroded the British culture. Liberalism has destroyed the British way of life. Now
