JERUSALEM [MENL] -- Israel plans to deport family members of Palestinian suicide bombers from the West Bank. Officials said the government wants to relocate the male family members of West Bank suicide bombers to either the Gaza Strip or Lebanon. They said the recommendation comes after months of meetings by Cabinet ministers in an effort to seek ways to end the attacks.
Already, officials said, several family members of Palestinian attackers have been detained. In Nablus, four homes linked to the suspects in the Hamas attack on an Israeli civilian bus on Tuesday were destroyed. Nine people were killed in the Palestinian ambush outside the northern West Bank community of Emanuel.
"There can be a way in which emergency legislation [for Palestinian expulsions] can be passed within 24 hours or several days," Environment Minister Tzachi Hanegbi said on Friday. "They can be deported outside the borders of Israel to Lebanon."

Deporting them about twenty-miles offshore might be more effective.

Deport them to a desert island in the south pacific.
To: ppaul
Deport them 6 feet under.

"Deporting them about twenty-miles offshore might be more effective. "I would reccomend taking them out to where the water depth is at least 50 fathoms, just to be sure, and make sure no "Greenpeace" vessels are nearby as they would consider this as serious pollution.

"The Bush administration yesterday sharply criticized an Israeli proposal to deport the families of Palestinian militants, saying that "taking punitive actions against innocent people will not solve Israel's security problems." I really do wonder what is going on with this Admin. "INNOCENT PEOPLE" PUHLEEEZE!?!?! They would be charged with conspiracy to commit murder in the US Court system. They train their kids to commit homicide, with the intent to accept compensation from Hussein!! Jeeez!

Yes, that's good, but why are they just deporting the male members?
To: ppaul
Good! America needs to get cracking and deport those Muslims here preaching hatred of us and jihad on us. These are a Muslim jihad fifth-column. OUT!

I'm the first to admit I've never been to the region, so my geography may be a bit sketchy. But isn' t this a bit like deporting someone from Phoenix to Mexico?
We have some experience with how well that works. Let's hope that Israel's borders are a bit more secure and the deportees don't just end up in a nest of fundamentalist hatred in Lebanon

Gaza is pretty hard to get out of. I dont think there are any settlements there and so they have pretty much built a wall around the place from what I have seen.
And there is nothing for them to tear up there. No holy sites for them to threaten. Gaza is the ancient land of Philistia sending the so-called Palestinians there (the name is a romeized version of Philista) is an interesting historical irony. Pack them all in and then give the whole thing back to Egypt.

Exactly. Israel needs their own Gitmo.

I agree, it's good..
But now watch for the ICC to bring them up on "War Crimes" charges.. They have been rattling sabers about this very thing.
Curiously enough, the ICC doesn't consider terrorism to be a crime. Imagine.

....Gaza is pretty hard to get out of....
But what about Lebanon? It would seem that Gaza would be preferable because of the difficulty of movement. I would not think either is much good tho. Small boats are available and I see nothing to prevent a trip up the coast to Lebanon from where they could reinfiltrate bact to the West Bank.
I don't understand the value of deportation because it seems easy to return.

Lots of troops on the border between Israel and Lebanon. Not as easy to get across as you might think. Not as easy to get a small boat in either. They do take border security more seriously then we do. None of their neighbors is what you would call real friendly.

Innocent? What a way to describe people that strap explosives on their pre-schoolers. It's a good plan, Israel should continue it, they have nothing to lose. If they clean out the West Bank entirely then they have their enemy located in one easy to control area, the Gaza Strip.
