A 50-year-old Yauco man who allegedly raped at least 12 girls between the ages of 4 and 15 after drugging them inside his barrio Rio Prieto home was charged Thursday with separate counts of rape, child exploitation and child pornography.
Ponce Judge Angela Irizarry set bail at $12.5 million, which the man could not post. He was taken to Las Cucharas penitentiary in Ponce pending an Aug. 14 preliminary hearing.
Police said for the past four months, Jose Robles Perez, a convicted rapist, had been posing as a gynecologist and offering fertility treatment to residents of the rural Yauco community where he lives.
Police agent Efrain Burgos, who is investigating the case, said Robles Perez had set up a small office with hidden cameras inside his one-story rental home. Burgos said relatives of the victims would take the girls to the office. There, Robles Perez would allegedly ask them to take off their clothes. He would pretend to examine them for a while, and then he would inject drugs in their private parts, Burgos said.
Robles Perez would then rape the girls and record the attacks on tape, Burgos said.
"You see the little girls in the videos. You see when he uses a syringe to inject drugs in their private parts. Then you see the girls with their eyes opened, but they look dead. They don't move. They don't talk. They don't do anything while he is raping them," Burgos said.
Although most relatives of the victims allegedly did not know what was going on inside the office, Burgos said a 27-year-old mother was arrested Thursday for allegedly taking her 8-year-old girl to Robles Perez to be raped. Burgos said the woman was having an affair with the suspect. She would have sex with him in front of her daughter and then let the man rape her child, police said.
The woman, of barrio Naranjo, was charged with child abuse, Burgos said.
Robles Perez was also charged with helping a 14-year-old girl who got pregnant after being raped by him have an abortion. The girl told a judge that Robles Perez gave her something to drink for several days "to fix the problem." She then had an abortion, Burgos said.
During a search of his home, police found 40 home-made pornographic videos, 200 pictures, video cameras, two firearms and a computer.
Burgos said Robles Perez 29-year-old son, who has the same name as his father, was also arrested on weapons violations. He lives in Penuelas, but he was with his father the day police searched his house. So far, no charges related to sexual abuse have been filed against the 29-year-old. Police said they have analyzed eight of the more than 40 home-made pornographic videos they found at Robles Perez house. The son does not appear in any of these videos, Burgos said.
"The father is not talking. The only thing he said is that a doctor should check the girls to prove he didn't rape them. Two of the young victims had to be checked by paramedics during a Rule 6 hearing because they had a panic attack and they dropped to the ground," Burgos said.
This case began two weeks ago, when employees of a K-mart store in Yauco Plaza told police a man had been taking pornographic pictures involving little girls to the store to develop.
Burgos said he staked out Robles Perez' home for several days after the call and saw the man being photographed with guns. He then asked for a search warrant.
Burgos said the man was convicted for rape in 1997 and is allegedly wanted by authorities in Massachusetts - where he lived before moving to Yauco.
"The Rio Prieto area is very rural, very isolated and people have little or no education. He would do sonograms on women, and fertility treatments. He had pictures on the wall showing the female reproductive system," Burgos said. "He wouldn't advertise his services, but the news that he was a gynecologist somehow started spreading. Once the victims arrived at his office, he had complete control over them."
"He talks like a well-educated person. He dresses very nice and owns a Cadillac," he added.
I hope the authorities check this monster's travel history.
Our FBI ought to get all over this guy and any contacts he might have in the continental USA and internationally.
Then he should be executed, extremely inhumanely.
Unless thing start changing back a form of vigilantism will begin to take care of these creeps and their enablers
I hope and pray things change because if it happens it won't be pretty.
These days, in prison, he'll probably get a chance to pursue a career in medicine, and earn a legitimate license to practice gynecology when he's released.
That's if he's convicted of rape, this time.
"The father is not talking. The only thing he said is that a doctor should check the girls to prove he didn't rape them."
What's this monster implying there? Is he implying that, at worst, he's only guilty of practicing medicine without a licence?
So what are you on about?
