Such energy might explain the incredibly successful fundraising season the GOP is enjoying.Fundraising doesn't necessarily translate into popular votes. For example, I believe the GOP led the Dems in fundraising in every Florida county in '2000, and Florida wasn't exactly a cakewalk as I recall.

You're absolutely right. Whose fault will it be if/when we lose control of the House and make the Senate even worse? In a year that we ABSOLUTELY SHOULD have cleaned up politically.... Reagan would have.

So why bother?
If the Republicans here are just party hacks who don't really believe their party is the only viable answer and should be strengthened, not weakened...why do you engage us?
We aren't "principled". We just blindly back the party even when they're wrong.
So go play with the real, true, principled conservatives who can make a difference without compromising. The ones who really care about the Constitution and never back down. Who never spend a second caring about a stupid, old election. And who are the shining example of William Wallace you all worship.

Face it kid, when the lukewarm OFFEND the faithful, its curtains. And the lukewarm advisors won't and don't admit it, ever. I.e., see the lukewarm advisors to George H.W. Bush: Richard Darman and John Sunnunu. Both torpedoed his administration, getting him to walk the tax increase plank into the shark infested sea, violating his pledge. And then when he lost, they beat a hasty retreat into the underbrush to lay in wait to afflict some other poor sap with their 'advice'.

Paul has recycled that little screed a few times, and he almost always said something similar during his glory days on NET.He's an activist, that has confused his passions for the electorate in general.Funny how many of those "hate gov't" conservatives have been working for many decades in the Beltway, isn't it?

In a year that we ABSOLUTELY SHOULD have cleaned up politically.... Reagan would have. Uh in the 82 mid term elections the Republicans actually lost 26 seats in the House.
There were a myriad of factors such as redistricting, etc. etc., but your tired old blanket use of as Reagan as a "superhorse" of conservatism is wrong.
Reagan just like Bush is a pragmatist who is a friend of conservatives, you just refuse to see it.

The conservatives who will stay home (or vote LP/CP) instead of Republican for your reasons are fewer in number than the liberal republicans/independents/swing voters who vote Republican (who would not vote republican if the ultra conservatives got all they wanted out of the republicans). The RNC consultants know this too.

Reagan had a recession which damaged the chances for the House. Although the case was made it was really the fallout for the recession that cost the House seats. But we gained in the Senate. And when we finally took the House for the first time in like 50 years, in 1994, it had far more to do with Ronald Reagan, the tired old warhorse, than Newt Gingrich who shamelessly took credit for it.
Interesting how the Bush-Bots are now openly attacking Ronald Reagan and showing their TRUE STRIPES.

If you want to stay home, vote LP, get drunk, whatever, please go ahead and do so. As for me and other true conservatives, we will go to the polls and vote GOP, and do so without any regrets. If the Dems get into ofc, it will be because of you people, not because of mine. And if you can't tell the diff bet the Dems and GOP, it may be better for you to stay at home, maybe use the time to catch up on your pointless and inane arguments. (I have never seen an idea put forward on FReep or anywhere else, than is better than voting the GOP into ofc and working with them; the only alternative they offer is sideshow politics; a lot of hot air, but absolutely no results).

No offense Malcolm, but I actually heard sheep noises in my head when I read that statement...

By your lights, I suspect you would classify the voters who put Ronald Reagan into power, and gave him the backing to win his massive victory in 1984 as 'ultra conservative'. Tsk. Any rate, the point stands, this Prez has absolutely no coat-tails. But he COULD have had.

So why bother?...why do you engage us? Call it a don Quixote complex.
The party faithful of both persuasions vastly outnumber people like me.
I have learned much at FR. I have even changed long held opinions as a result.
Who knows. My scribblings may provoke one person to re-examine long held beliefs.
That person might even conclude that principles do matter and that there is no room for compromise on some issues.

Interesting how the Bush-Bots are now openly attacking Ronald Reagan and showing their TRUE STRIPES. I knew that would be your response. Reagan was a GREAT President, and I consider myself lucky to see his administration in action, and damn glad that carter wasn't in power beween 80-84.
That said your deification of Reagan would make Ronnie himself uncomfortable, IMHO. I am surmising that Ronnie would be applauding W. right now and cursing privately infantile, pious, knee jerks like you.

That is silly logic.....I am SO GLAD the Libertarian Party (and you) were not in charge of the armies in WW11.

"Bravery is not enough," said Squealer. "Loyalty and obedience are more important. And as to the Battle of the Cowshed, I believe the time will come when we shall find that Snowball's part in it was much exaggerated. Discipline, comrades, iron discipline! That is the watchword for today. One false step, and our enemies would be upon us. Surely, comrades, you do not want Jones back?"
Once again this argument was unanswerable. Certainly the animals did not want Jones back; if the holding of debates on Sunday mornings was liable to bring him back, then the debates must stop. Boxer, who had now had time to think things over, voiced the general feeling by saying: "If Comrade Napoleon says it, it must be right." And from then on he adopted the maxim, "Napoleon is always right," in addition to his private motto of "I will work harder."

So far you are not giving me reason to believe you are anything but a left wing quack.
You must really have a boring, useless life.
