I'm sorry, but I don't know what your point is. Further information from the article seems to put him in a good light:
"The deputy attorney general is proud of his service on the board of Providian. He only became aware of the issues when regulators began to make inquiries," the newspaper quoted Thompson's spokesman Mark Corallo as saying.

"He then personally took the lead in making the company do the right thing and it was his personal efforts that were a driving force in the company settling over $400 million and in implementing internal reforms and compliance measures," Corallo added.

In addition you changed the title, which is against the rules of this forum. The correct title is: Bush corporate SWAT head headed Providian - paper

Takes crook to ignore a crook I guess. We already have a DOJ appointed by the executive branch, doesn't look like they're putting anyone behind bars. Why sould we expect more of another panel appointed by the executive.
If we don't see some charges filed on the Enron Boys soon we can kiss the House and Senate goodbye.

If you want to catch a crook, you have to go to an expert on the matter, another crook. This theory has worked so well for the FBI and their informants, and yes, even some of their agents, that method is being copied. This is sort of like hiring Bonnie and Clyde to stop bank robberies.

Tuned in the CBS Saturday morning news show (no cable) -- some show political "advisor" was positively giddy talking about this and the other issues that have "snakebit" the President this week. Took every issue (Harken stock, low interest loan, Cheney-Haliburton, Providian, etc.), told the DNC/media line (no pretense of another side or fairness) and then made the statement how Bush was worse than Clinton because we knew that Clinton was a rouge, but Bush ran on integrity, honesty, etc. What SOB's these critics in the media are. I found myself yelling at the TV and hoping I didn't wake up the neighbors.

I am no great Bush fan, but I take exception over phony hit pieces like this. If I'd been there with you, the neighbors sure WOULD have heard us. :0)
