LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Power and energy companies have become targets for computer hackers, who have managed to penetrate their networks and other systems.

The Los Angeles Times reported Monday that energy and power companies have been hit with an average 1,280 significant attacks in the last six months, far more than companies in any other industry.

I'm puzzled that China isn't mentioned in these reports. I belong to a service called my NetWatchman, which collects and compiles attacks from members (DSL) through download of firewall logs, and in the past 24 hours, they tally 541 attacks from chinanet-xj.com, Beijing. The exploits include LRRing (Unix), RPC (Unix), FTP and DNS/TCP. The info is collected from 1164 users in 40 countries.

Website (free registration required): my NetWatchman

It's a neat service that works well with ZoneAlarm and BlackIce through a small well-behaved program. I'm not a techie, but the info is fascinating, and it's a quick way to find out what the cyber crazies are up to, and make sure you're protected.

Good info, thanks for the ping!

I've been getting a number of unexplained probes over my cable link!
I think I will take a looksee at the Watchman package.
