FAISALABAD, July 7: Jaranwala police on Sunday arrested a Pesh Imam and two others for instigating villagers to kill an American Navy engineer on charges of blasphemy.

Faraz Jawed (30), an American by birth whose parents are settled is the US, is here to see his in-laws in Chak 111-JB, Jaranwala.

On Friday last, he visited the village mosque to offer Juma prayers and objected to the Pesh Imam's political speech. At that time the Imam was cursing the Pakistan government and the Americans.

"Instead of blaming America, you should better tell us Islamic teachings," Fraz reportedly asked the Imam. The Pesh Imam did not like it. He asked people sitting in the mosque to kill Faraz. "He is also an American and enemy of the Muslims."

Faraz managed to escape from the mosque with his relative Mohammad Naeem. After the Juma prayers, Imam Hafiz Abdul Latif called village elders and asked them to punish Faraz.

Over four dozen people reportedly attacked Naeem's house where Faraz was present. Some of the attackers were also carrying iron rods, sticks and lethal weapons.

Naeem locked the doors and immediately informed the area police. A police party rushed to the scene and prevailed upon the mob on the assurance that Fraz would be proceeded against for committing blasphemy.

The mob dispersed after pelting stones on the house which damaged windowpanes. In the meantime, Faraz Jawed reportedly contacted the US embassy in Islamabad. The embassy reportedly took immediate note and asked the government to save the life of its national.

The Jaranwala police registered two cases against Imam of the mosque, Hafiz Abdul Latif, on charge of creating law and order problem in the area and instigating the religious feelings of the people and attacking the house of Faraz family. The cases against the Imam and a dozen villagers were registered under section 16 MPO and 295-A of Blasphemy Act, while the other case was registered under section 452 and 506 PPC.

The police arrested Hafiz Abdul Latif, Mohammad Asim, Zubair Usman and was making raids for the arrest of other accused involved in the incident.

What i did on my summer vacation:

On the first day of my vacation I attended Church while visiting a relative and received a death sentence and started a riot resulting in said relatives house being burned, daughter being raped, and his cattle being sacrificed.

On the first day of my vacation I.......

Religion of peace bump.

I know from my Turkish that "Cuma" means "Friday" (the Moslems' holy day, day of gathering). But what does "Pesh" in "Pesh Imam" mean?

You know I don't want to see this nation go into an unnecessary war, I don't... its just not worth the horrendous sufferring.

But what can you say about a culture that "arbitrarily" pronounces a death sentence in the middle of a religous service?

The only thing close in popular western culture is Satanism.

How twisted do things get in the name of religion?

It is so absurd that it can only be approached with humor, disbelief, and possibly only stopped by war.

That is frightening to think that attending Church can get you killed, I guess attendance is compulsory?

Ho-lee sh*t. I am speechless. We as Americans obviously have FAR FAR more to fear from these "peaceful" Moslims in their own country than Moslims have to fear here in America.

Did you know that Islam forbids declaring Jihad on countries that allow open preaching and proslytization of Islam? Know of any countries around here that fit the bill? Ones that start with a U and end in an A and sound like "S" in the middle?

Funny how they disregard their own religion when it works against them...

A fatwa on "heretics" and "defectors" is a powerful tool.
Death threats have a way of focusing a follower's mind.
There can never be a "moderate" Islam because of this.
Moderate words with double meanings (as we have seen), perhaps.
Moderate accommodations that are repudiated at their convenience.
All in all, Islam sounds more like the mafia than a religion.
The craziest, most bloodthirsty bastard defines the agenda.

You know I see the "manipulations" that happen in our "intended for internal consumption" press.

But the total mind control of these acts are simply frightening.

What type of religous mind rapes as a punishment for behaviour that is objectinable under cannocal religous thoughts on sexual mores?

What type of religous mind kills in the middle of a religous service?

I always pointed to the archeotype pf "baby eating" as a myth, primordial stuff way down in the physche, but you know I'm beginning not to put it past them.

"A police party rushed to the scene and prevailed upon the mob on the assurance that Fraz would be proceeded against for committing blasphemy"

I'm a little confused. FARAZ questions the imam's radical, hate filled style of teaching....and FARAZ "will be proceeded against" for BLASPHEMY?????

So, either the imam is Allah in disguise...or Muslims have a very different definition of what constitutes blasphemy than the West does.

This story is totally bizarre, by my hat is off to sailor Faraz for speaking out in defence of his countrymen against the mad mullah.

The Pesh Imam did not like it.

And when the Pesh Imam doesn't like something, heads roll. Literally.

I'm glad this guy isn't my parish priest. I have a feeling that this illustrious cleric is not very approachable and prone to hasty judgements. Seeking spiritual counsel would require some courage.

Don't cough or sneeze during his sermons either. If he's having a bad day, you could lose your house.

YEAH!!!!

Is he detained on Blasphemy?

On the second day of my summer vacation I retained an Islamic lawyer who was also a Mullah, and he sentenced me to death also.

Absurd? Reality? what???????????????

Somebody suggested I take a position overseas, I will never visit a non-western nation.

The rape and then this, barbaric. Even the "best" apologists sails loose all wind when people behave this way.

Sounds to me like the Pakistani police arrested the radical instigators. I think its a safe assumption that they are Muslims, too.

Organized Satanism is sex orgy clubs for rich weirdos who like to feel extra naughty. Not harmless, but not this bad.

Had this fellow not been an American sailor he would have been killed and the police would have done nothing about it. These things happen every day in Moslem countries THROUGHOUT the world. While not monolithic almost all moslem countries unite around one theme-killing infidels and apostates. This is the one thing they all agree on.
