According to the American Spectator, in Africa many diseases are diagnosed as AIDS because of the favorable funding for treatment of this disease over the typical endemic diseases. The figures are corrupt.

I remember way back the mid eighties, they were telling us that by the year 2000, everyone in america will have had a close freind or relative die from aids.

I know of no one that has ever had HIV. In fact, I know of no one that knows anyone that has ever had HIV. I'm not counting movie stars or famous people.

Seems to me like they cried wolf. Now they are doing it again in africa. But you know what? Even if they are right this time, I don't even care.

It is quite reasonable to think that these numbers are corrupt...but there is more to the AIDS infections than Africa. Jamaica, for instance, has the highest incidence of new HIV infections in the West. It's believed by health officials there that more than 10% of the pop is infected.

Also, there is Asia, Thailand and, increasingly, China and India. Numbers can't be cooked everywhere.

Perhaps the numbers are cooked in Africa, but there is also a cultural squeamishness about AIDs that would work to keep the numbers lower. I suspect that conditions in Africa are pretty bad where AIDS is concerned
