NEW YORK -- The AIDS epidemic is not close to reaching its peak, the United Nations says in a devastating report released Tuesday.

The epidemic has reached proportions once considered impossible in the world's most affected countries and is spreading at alarming rates elsewhere. The crisis "now outstrips even the worst-case scenarios" projected by epidemiologists tracking the deadliest disease in human history, the report says.

If this is true, it is frightening. On the other hand, you never can tell truth from falsehood when you're dealing with the UN.

I agree that the UN is generally not to be trusted...but other sources have charted a devastating trajectory in AIDS in South Africa in particular, because that's one of the few countries in Africa that keeps any kind of records at all. Just a couple of years back SA had 25% of the pop infected with a new infection rate of 8% a year...that pretty much makes sense with these UN numbers.

In the true spirit of the UN, it is far more important to provide surplus Soviet-era condoms and encouragement than it is to just say "Hey, that will kill you! STOP IT!"

Why doesn't the report mention how men are raping virgin girls and boys in the sickening belief that this will cure them of AIDS, thus creating a brand new generation of victims who will not survive into their teenage years.

AIDS IS ABOUT SEXUAL DEVIANCY. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT SEXUAL DEVIANCY. But you will never hear this from the left. All you will get is blaming Reagan for the blood donor system, while ignoring homos going "bareback" in bathhouses.

If one parses this paragraph, one finds that it says far less than it seems to.

Those 950K cases date back how far? How many new cases are there annually? What percentage of cases among those women is due to sexual contact, vs. intravenous drug use? Why is the percentage so high among black and Hispanic women? Among cases contracted through sexual contact, what percentage are gay men?

The problem in Africa may (may not, IMHO) be truthfully reported. However, the statistics on the U.S. are so useless that it leads one to believe that this article is merely a hyperbolic attempt to strike fear into the hearts of Americans, most of whom are at no risk of getting AIDS.

Isn't this exactly what the Enviro-Nazzis want - depopulating of special natural habitat areas? Much of the African continent will revert to its natural non-human inhabitants state. Even the animals will repopulate the plains, etc. I guess it all works out ok in the end.

A half-truth at best, for the reasons you stated and the inclusion of M/F anal intercourse as heterosexual.

The continued success of Uganda in lowering its infection rate, from a high of 14 percent in the early 1990s to 5 percent in 2001, and more recent prevention successes in countries including Zambia, Cambodia and Poland are the report's few bright spots.

What they do not elaborate on in this article is that Uganda has adopted an Abstinence education program throughout their country in their fight against AIDS. Not "Safe-Sex", "Abstinence". The UN writers just can't bring themselves to tell their audience the one real success story in the battle against AIDS. Imagine if a "Safe Sex" program had produced big results. The program would be hailed on all of the mass media. Just think, they are willing to keep people from knowing the truth just so they can be seen as being politically correct. Sin is sickening!

Agreed. This seems to be natural process, and like most natural processes will have a positive outcome. Self-destructive cultures, whose members do virtually nothing but reproduce and fight, will be decimated. This disease selectively afflicts those who lack self-control. The remaining population will not be representative of the pre-AIDS population.

Tested for HIV and found positive 25% or just someone's untested diagnosis based on the ailment? When these folks are held liable for all the lies and distortions they've propogated in the past, I'll begin to believe what they may say next. As long as they can lie with impunity, I have no confidence in their claims.

Bravo....my sentiments exactly. I've said it before and I'll say it again....DON'T go IN through the OUT door. I'm a custom painter, not a doctor, but I'm pretty sure the bung-hole is an exit, not an entrance....never designed and engineered (by the Big Guy) as a two way street. I'm also a little suspect of the UN definition of AIDS, which is having a low T-cell count. I know I've posted this here before, but I'll post it again. If you've got a severe cold and have completed a serious workout and have an AIDS test done.....guess what....by the UN definition of AIDS, you've gone and contracted AIDS.....somethings fishy here, me hears the giant sucking sound of mo' money being pilfered out of our wallets!
