[history]
President Bush and former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani may be the new post-Sept. 11 heroes for most of the United States, but in liberal pockets across the country, Congresswoman Barbara Lee -- the Oakland Democrat who was the lone dissenter against the war on terrorism -- is the leader du jour.

The Wayne Morse Center at the University of Oregon was so courageously proud of the award to Barbara Lee (apparently given by
a state park!) it's
pulled the mention of it off its Web site (compare with Google cache above).
This unmitigated puff piece is exhibit number 1 in the case proving press bias.

Here is a scary thought: this woman runs in the Democrat primary on a "progressive platform." She doesn't get the nomination, but wins enough votes for the Democrat nominee to seriously consider her for running mate or a cabinet posititon.
To: GeneD
The ironic this is that all these "peace" organizations are PRO-WAR.

"She's a hero to the entire progressive side of the electorate."
I assume they mean "Progressive" in the Mussolini/Stalin/Hitler/Franco sense of the word.

The ironic this is that all these "peace" organizations are PRO-WAR. Yeah, they're only pro-war when it's the commies or the Muslims going to war.
national polls don't necessarily reflect the views of the peace movement.
Just like the peace movement does not necessarily reflect the views of the Nation. It gives me some comfort to know the peacenicks are still something of a subculture. But it's a matter of time before the peace movement joins forces with the one long-standing group that it resembles the most: the neo-nazis. :o(

She listened to her inner voice Reportedly, it sounded strangely like Osama Bin Laden.

The "progressive movement" is the most conservative, backward thinking movement on the scene today.
It's to todays politics as the dadaist movement would be to the contemporary art scene....zzzzzzz.

But Michael Carrigan, program director of Salem-based Oregon Peace Works, said national polls don't necessarily reflect the views of the peace movement. N s, S.

Yeah, well ... Cynthia McKinney's has "risen to hero status amongst the left" as well, and she's looking increasingly likely to be booted out by her own constituents in November because they're sick of her socialism and Arab-worshipping. Let them be "heroes" to the irrelevant 5-10% of the population that's ultra-left. It doesn't matter one bit if they're out of power.

The only thing that reflects the views of the self-appointed peace movement is the participants in the self-appointed peace movements. Nobody else thinks like them.

"adolesent rebellion" to the nth degree!
IMHO she's got serious issues. But then again, what lib doesn't?
To: GeneD
Barbara Lee is the leader du jour. More like the idiot du jour.
To: GeneD
All I know is I can't go anywhere without hearing what a courageous person she is.
Notice they had to interview 60s holdovers in order to find people to speak favorably of her.
As for her speaking to "soldout" seats, I have just one word; CALIFORNIA. 'Nuff said.
To: Benevolent Dictator
Is she the one who asked if the Mars lander would go near where the astronauts landed?
To: GeneD
Although other background on her is given in the article, there is no mention of her history as an active communist.
To: GeneD
Where would we be without Comic Relief?
Republicans should make her the spokeswoman for the Democrat Party along with the "esteemed" congresswoman from Georgia, Cynthia "Jihad" McKinney.
