[history]
WASHINGTON - At least 286 New Yorkers were recorded as illegally double-voting in both the city and Florida in the 2000 presidential election, according to a Republican National Committee study. So did 207 New Jersey voters, suggesting double-dippers may have had a significant impact on the super-close election in which President Bush won Florida - and the White House - by just 537 votes.

Republicans say they've found 140,109 people who were registered to vote in two places in 2000 - and 742 who actually did cast ballots twice. The study was sparked by a New York Post report in December 2000 that 14,486 New Yorkers were registered to vote in both New York and Florida.
....how 'bout when they roll in the voting machines to polling places with votes already on them before the polls open?..........

Polling places in Florida are staffed by volunteers who, IMO, are not, for the most part, alert enough to pay attention or qualified to do the job. It's a joke every time I step into a polling place, I always expect to have "something" happen, such as not be found on the list, etc. Seems like something always happens.

742 who actually did cast ballots twice. I would think if those 742 double voters were charged AND jailed, future double voters would think twice!!!

Prediction: The same Democraps that were calling for the investigation following the 2000 Presidential Election will be whining about the Republicans trying to make political hay out of this study. The Democraps will go back into Clinton sex scandal mode by saying "Let's just move on."

found 140,109 people who were registered to vote in two places in 2000 - and 742 who actually did cast ballots twice. And these 742 individuals will not have any charges brought against them. Time to set the example folks, 4 years for the FL crooks and 4 years for the NY crooks in the slammer. Out of curiosity, I would like to see a breakdown of which political party they belong to.........

I'd bet you are right... except I doubt the GOP will make an issue of this. They also seem to be in "move on" mode!
*I* haven't moved on!!

Didn't you know? Since the Clintons reign of terror, every Democrat
is above the law. Double voting is considered every Democrat's right.

NOw we are talking! But what is going to be done about this? NOTHING! Surely there is something major that can be done - IS THERE ANYBODY WORKING TO FIX THIS OR ARE WE GOING TO JUST LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN IN 2002?????
To: alley cat
I sent this article to the RNC and DOJ with a DEMAND that offenders be prosecuted and jailed. If we really want to stop voter fraud - at least this ploy - an example must be made - trial and jail would be a good solution. Some might be willing to vote twice for their candidate - but how many would be willing to spend 4 or 5 years in prison????

These 742 were only from 5 boroughs connecting to the same 3 counties. What about Long Island and Connecticutt/ Florida residents. I'm sure the true number of illegal double votes is much higher than 742.
iwonder how much publicity this will get on all the 'news' shows. - Dan, Peter and Tom tonight!

You're right. The Media wouldn't let the Republicans raise the issue without blasting them. I was forgetting the fact that there are two sets of rules. A harsh set for Republicans, and a lax set for Democraps!

....how 'bout when they roll in the voting machines to polling places with votes already on them before the polls open?.......... Not to worry. That's not the double dippers.
Them's the vote of the lately lamented and dearly departed loved ones.

Hey, be easy on poll workers! I'm not old, but I've been a poll worker in the last two elections. Self preservation is what motivated me during the prez 2000 election. I live in a district that is 5-1 Democrat, and there was no way I would trust anyone else to represent the Republicans at that table. Everyone who cares about vote fraud should step up to the plate, and volunteer to work just so you can keep a watchful eye on those Democrats who continue to try and cheat. This year, in our primary, at the end of the day, when we have to count the spoiled ballots, the Dems had several. The Republicans did not have one spoiled ballot. The stereotype is still alive: Democrats don't know how to vote, and when they do, they try to cheat.

I would like to know the methodology of matching. Is it SSN? Probably hard to get, since the voter rolls are public and SSN shouldn't be published. The Voter registration number should be distinct, and would differ from state to state. (It's state now, not local, because of teh Motor Voter law.)
Simple name matching isn't sufficient. Maybe they added in date of birth.
I once did some DC PG County Maryland matching (lots of double registration there). The key there was that an large portion of the black community has unique first names, especially for females.

....how 'bout when they roll in the voting machines to polling places with votes already on them before the polls open?..Can't speak for anywhere else, but there are redundancies and protection built into the system in VA. The most basic of which is the machine reads "Zero" before opening the polls.

From the article:
The RNC is doing the check as it updates its database of 165 million voters - using change-of-address cards plus records of subscription changes double-checked for exact names and identical dates of birth.

exact names and identical dates of birth. This means that if you double register with a different middle name, or even if you misspell your first name, you won't be screened for this double dipping!
