I read an article about a year ago, by a college professor who migrated to Alabama. He said the people were much different - friendlier and humbler. He also had a theory about Southern manners - he said it is a way to prevent things from getting out of hand, with hot-tempered people. There are some people in the South who get lathered up pretty quick - read the "South was right to fight!" Civil War threads sometime, if you dare.
