India ready for 'decisive battle'
The Telegraph (U.K.) ^ | 05/23/2002 | Rahul Bedi and Anton La Guardia

India's prime minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, told cheering front-line troops in the disputed territory of Kashmir yesterday to be ready for a "decisive battle" as tensions with Pakistan reached new heights.

"We must be prepared for sacrifices. Our goal is victory," he told soldiers in Kupwara.

In a further sign that India was preparing for war, its navy moved warships from the Bay of Bengal to reinforce forces on the western coast, positioning them to choke off the main Pakistani port of Karachi.

Tony Blair, in the Commons, called on both countries to step back from the danger of a war that could lead to nuclear conflagration.

In the first sign of a possible climbdown Pakistan said it would not allow the part of disputed Kashmir it rules to be used for terrorist activity, an apparent concession.

But, in response to the tough warning from Mr Vajpyee during his tour of Kashmir, Pakistan's military government also vowed to use "full force" if the country were attacked.

About one million troops have been mobilised on both sides of the 2,000-mile frontier since December. This followed Indian threats to go to war with Pakistan in response to a series of attacks blamed on Kashmiri militants supported by Pakistan.

Tensions within Kashmir were running high yesterday, as tens of thousands of people poured into the streets of Srinagar to attend the funeral of the moderate Kashmiri separatist leader, Abdul Ghani Lone. He was killed by two masked gunmen on Tuesday.

It could be very sticky if the nukes start flying.

I hope and pray that cooler heads prevail -- but there are elements on both sides that are courting this war with fiendish glee.

Every thinking person should be shaken by the potential here. Just think of possibly millions dead or mortally wounded. Vast areas of the earth barren and unlivable. There will be NO winner in this fray.

India has the lead in conventional forces, but Pakistan has more nukes and more accurate missiles.

Actually they do not. I got this from a website that listed their respective strengths, and India has the edge on Pakistan on every area but one..... diesel submarines. But due to India's supremacy in areas like its navy even this slight advantage is negated.

And when it comes to nukes India is also superior. The following exerpt shows best what i mean:

The danger is in the attempt to gain an advantage one of the sides may resort to the use of nuclear weapons which both countries tested recently, with Pakistan having between 8-12 nuclear weapons and India having between 70-100 nuclear weapons with both countries having a ballistic missile capability. With India having the Agni and Prithvi ballistic missiles which have a range of 2500km and 150/250km respectively. With Pakistan having the Hataf series and Ghauri missiles with ranges of 60km/600-800km and 1500km respectively. Although the Pakistani missiles are based on Chinese designs or are Chinese in origin which leaves a question mark over their accuracy, while the Prithvi has been reported to have attained an CEP of 10m in some tests through the use of a warhead similar to that of the RA-DAG warhead used by the Pershing II (Asia-Pacific Defence Reporter, April/May 1994, pg. 20). India has also ordered the 300V SAM from Russia which has a ABM capability and is thought to be superior to the Patriot system that protected Israel during the Gulf War. ( Note:- even if Pakistan were to begin with a nuclear first strike they could never destroy India's nuclear capability. With only 7-12 weapons Pakistan would only be able to attack 3-6 Indian targets. While they do have delivery systems they are yet to develop a hard target kill capability, thus enough Indian weapons would survive to allow for a massive retaliatory strike.)

Time to double down that bet on India.

Besides, anyone who has watched videos of Indian legislators duking it out in their Parliament has to give odds on the Hindi's.

Yes... there will.

There is always a winner... and a loser. Pakistan will be the loser... because they have little to lose to begin with.

Pakistan is a muslim country... with nuclear weapons, they continually hint at using... and NOT a democracy. Islam around the globe, is due for a massive humiliation. Pakistan is very likely to be the starting point. And the entire nation of Islam, multiplied by one hundred is no match for the foes they are antagonizing... not even close. Islam IS a deathwish, looking to become a deathwatch.

Better THERE than here.

A pre-emptive strike by India is in order. Perhaps even a non nuclear one would work.

Pakistan may end up as the worlds new nuclear waste dump, as it won't be inhabitable for awhile.

That'll solve your problems in Arizona. Now you can tranship that nuclear waste the Feds were gonna give you to a new home in western Pakistan. They've got plenty of caves over there.

The best thing about this scenario is that after the Indians finish stomping on Pak, the French won't get paid for their subs and the chinese will will minus a few of its nuclear-missle techs, and the money they've invested as well.

Is the War on Terrorism morphing into a World War on Islam? We have the US fighting Islamic fanatics in Afghanistan, the Stans, Yemen, Somalia, Georgia and sometime in Iraq. Russia is fighting a Muslim Chechen uprising. China has a low-grade battle against the Uighurs in their far West. Nigeria is fighting an attempt to impose Sharia in their Muslim majority States.

Vast areas of the earth barren and unlivable.

Would it be? I was under the impression that India's and Pakistan's nukes are barely of Hiroshima standards. With those sorts of bombs, you can go back in a few days after the blast and not be in particularly more danger than you would have before.

Wish I could figure out what's going on...one day there are several articles claiming that the Indian Army couldn't possibly attack until September, after the monsoons and after the present heat wave has diminished...then today there are a spate of articles that make it seem as though serious hostilities are imminent.

The Brits are certainly taking this think seriously. I'm afraid this has the potential to be the worst catastrophe the world has ever seen...these people seem to be hell bent on nuclear war. As much as I disdain islam, this is something that I absolutely dread happening...I pray that something happens to cool this thing off.
