Bloomberg Doesn't Blame Bush for 9-11

NEW YORK (AP) -- It's unfair to blame President Bush for not passing on information about a possible terrorist strike, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Friday.

"The difficulty is that every day ... you have an enormous number of threats that come in," Bloomberg said during his weekly show on WABC Radio. "No rational person believes that the president knew we were going to be attacked. That's just preposterous."

The mayor added: "In retrospect, yes, we should not have had the security lapses at the Boston airport ... We should have looked to see who was taking flying lessons."

The president has been criticized for failing to tell the public about a possible plot by the Osama bin Laden terrorist network to hijack American airplanes. The president was aware of intelligence data about possible hijackings a month before the Sept. 11 attacks.

It is just danged generous of Bloomberg to not blame Dubya for the events of 9/11. Now if we could just get the junior Senator from New York to take the same position....

But that may make it necessary to explain her own actions and those of the "Former Occupant of the Oval Office, 1993-2001" in the same context.

Bloomberg was obviously responding to a queston here, and has done little but talk common sense and rationality when it comes to rebuilding downtown, and dealing with the attack's economic fallout.
