FBI Investigates Stolen KC Airport Uniforms (Missing Truckload)
KMBC ABC TV Channel 9 Kansas City ^ | May 16, 2002 | Jeremy Hubbard

Posted on 05/16/2002 9:16:35 PM PDT by codebreaker

Federal terrorism investigators are looking into the thefts of uniforms worn by airport workers.

KMBC's Jeremy Hubbard said that the uniforms are normally worn by employees with acess to secure airport areas as well as to airplanes.

'Well, that doesn't make me feel very comfortable about flying today. I didn't know that,' traveler Melanie Volker said.

Hubbard said the heist happened a week and a half ago at 17th and Cherry streets.

Someone broke into Cintas Uniforms and stole a uniform delivery truck.

The day after the break in, the truck was recovered, but the uniforms were missing.

Lanza added that a uniform alone will not get someone access to restricted areas at the airport.

The security at Logan was Argenbright which is owned by "Securicor",a British company.

It has a "franchise" in Dubai.

It is owned by an Arab.

What's the chance that important badges, codes, passwords, uniforms etc were stolen from there?

Plus Logan was just a mess pre-9/11 under contsruction..those Arabs knew what they were doing, picking a weak spot

Just like stealing uniforms in the middile of the country where it takes a week for the local news to notice that they are missing.

You may be right.

It's a wonder they didn't wait until all airport employees were totally federalized and wearing standardized uniforms. Then they could have used them at any airport in the country :)

The rotten thing about this type of thing is that it's so obvious, it could just be a diversion. But I sure wouldn't want to count on that.

After 9/11, there were reports that some of the hijackers had been wearing pilot's uniforms and had been given courtesy seats in the cockpits of the planes. Was this ever confirmed?

Thank you for the link. That's exactly what I recalled -- that hijackers were already in the cockpits as a courtesy, under the false pretense that they were colleague pilots. And that there were many other flights that morning with others (presumably terrorists) in the cockpit under the same courtesy rules; these flights would also have been hijacked if the government hadn't taken such swift action to ground all planes. But those people weren't held. They're loose now, planning who knows what.
