Police gets vital clues LeT terrorists grilling on
NEW DELHI, May 11: The special cell of the Delhi Police today carried out an intensive grilling of the three Kashmiri Lashkar-e-Toiba militants who were arrested on Thursday to find out the designs of the banned Pakistani terrorist outfit in sending them to the capital.
The three terrorists Sheikh Sayyad, Mirajuddin Peer alias Hilal and Firoz Ahmed Sheikh (all residents of Kashmir) are in 14-day police custody and are facing charges under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) and certain other provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act.
Besides them, the special cell had shot dead two members of LeTs Fidayeen group Abu Bilal, the prime suspect in the December 2000 Red Fort storming case and Abu Zabiullah in an encounter near Humayuns tomb in Nizamuddin in South Delhi.
Special cell sources told UNI that the terrorists were asked questions about the targets of the LeT in the Capital and elsewhere in the country and about their exact plans.
Special Commissioner of Police (Intelligence) K K Paul had yesterday told reporters that the terrorists had been ordered from across the border to target industrial establishments and political personalities. Though Dr Paul refused to identify the political leaders, certain reports suggested that they included Home Minister L K Advani and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
The interrogation of the three arrested terrorists provided certain vital clues about the LeTs operation in India and what were their plans in Gujarat and Maharashtra. The sources, however, did not disclose the inputs provided by the terrorists.
"We have come across certain facts, but it is not possible for us to disclose them at this stage as it would affect our investigation," the sources said.
In a sensational disclosure, the Delhi Police had yesterday said the LeT module was to foment militancy in riot-hit Gujarat. It said after the riots in Gujarat, the terrorists had visualised the State as a fertile ground for recruiting Muslim youth for militancy. "Their plan was to go as human rights activists and motivate the Muslim youth for joining militancy," Dr Paul disclosed.
He said a number of fake identity cards showing them as human rights activists were recovered from the terrorists.
The task of the LeT (now working with the changed name of Tariq-e-Bin Zaid) was said to be to assassinate VVIPs and cause blasts in major industrial areas in order to cripple the economy and bring India to its knees. (UNI)
It is becoming more difficult to imagine and hope that major war between India and Pakistan can be avoided.
Seems to be standard operating procedure to use "charities" and the like as covers for terrorism.
