Remembering Pollard

The Committee to Bring Jonathan Home has announced another Torah lecture - the 5th in a series - in honor of Jonathan Pollard. The class will be delivered by Rabbi Yitzchak Ginsburgh on May 15 at 8:15 PM at the Yeshurun Synagogue in central Jerusalem.

Jonathan Pollard is now in his 17th year of a prison sentence in the U.S. for spying for Israel - a crime that carries an average punishment of 2-4 years. Yehoshua Steinberg of the Committee to Bring Jonathan Home recently explained, "It may seem strange to continue with the struggle for a single individual at a time of such national agony. In truth, quite the opposite is true. [Jonathan's wife] Esther was exactly on the mark [when she said that] Klal Yisrael's tragedies precisely mirror Jonathan's suffering." The reference was to the following comment by Esther Pollard:
"One of the reasons that Israel is experiencing such anguish in so many areas - and I believe this with all my heart - is that successive administrations in Israel have been permitted to abandon individual Jews. The minute the nation allows the government to abandon even one Jew, every Jew is at risk..."

Other speakers in this series have included Rabbis Mordechai Eliyahu, Moti Elon, Yosef Mendelevitch, and Mordechai Noigershall.

MK Michael Kleiner Meeting with Pollard

MK Michael Kleiner, who heads the Knesset lobby seeking the release of Jonathan Pollard, met with Mr. Pollard in his US prison cell earlier today. It is the second meeting between the two in the past year.

Kleiner has already received Knesset approval to lobby with a delegation of MKs on Capitol Hill, seeking to pressure Washington to release Pollard, who is an Israeli citizen.

As much as I support Isreal in their ongoing fight against terrorism, I have no sympathy and no respect for Pollard -- or the idiots he has seduced into supporting him.

Pollard is a traitor. He deserves to stay in prison until he rots. Actually, he should have been shot.

The story gained a startling momentum when the Mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani - Hillary's likely opponent- was asked his opinion about the president's offer of clemency to the FALN terrorists. Giuliani stated that he did not know enough about the case to state whether or not the offer was political pandering and said that he would like to see the case file before making any such judgment. When asked about Jonathan Pollard, Giuliani stated that unlike the case of the FALN, " The Pollard case s a case that I do know well.." As far as Giuliani is concerned, that statement attributed to him makes him sound like a pathetic, pandering, political scumbag. If he really said Pollard should be released, then shame on him. Pollard should be hung.
