Beware the hate-mongers behind Ten Commandments movement (GAG)
The Tennessean ^ | May 5, 2002 | JAMES H. WILLIAMS

When members of the Metro Council express the necessity of ''putting God back into this country'' as a justification to post the Ten Commandments in government buildings, they are using code words of the Christian right. They send chills up my spine because what they really mean is: Let's return America to the days of illegal abortions, forced prayer in public schools, second-class citizenship for non-Christians, and gays and lesbians in the closet.

Christian conservatives recently have embraced the Ten Commandments as a new weapon.

Fallacy: Ten Commandments are discrimmination against non-Christians.

Truth: Ten Commandments are from the Jewish religion.

Question: Is the opposition to posting the Ten Commandments a form of Jew hatred and intolerance of Jews?

By all means, let's keep the Commandments out and in their place, let's give out condoms to children, let's teach homosexuality is an acceptable lifestyle, and, by all means, let's not teach kids how to read, spell or point off a decimal in their heads.
And the coup de grace, let's teach them "new history"!

I don't think those are "code words" since the Christian right is pretty explicit about stating just those beliefs.

Typical lefty, heterophobe rant. He quotes from the most absurd web site he can find, and says all who have an opinion other than his believe the same nonsense.

The Dems do the same when they talk about Repubs wanting to starve children and throw grannie into the street.

"..Hate-mongers..."

Let us hope so, as properly directed hate is a powerful force. It could even lead to exclusion and a reconstitution of society along healthy lines.

Absolutely! The Christian "right" is explicit about it, and there are a good number on the Christian "left" who are a bit less explicit, but who agree.

In fact, there should be a uniformity of opinion on the part of Moslems about the validity of placing the Ten Commandments in public places.

The "non-religious left" uses them as a code-word for "submit to us or we'll sue".

Sorry but the spokesmen for the Christian right seem to typically be extremists of that sort. It is rare indeed for even the more moderate Christian rightists to find fault with such "abusrd" rants. You are known by the company you keep.

"For our part, Equality Tennessee stands with the guardians of the Constitution and openly calls for a state that embraces a wide range of beliefs and faiths as the true strength of a society that seeks "liberty and justice for all"."

If these mental midgets had enough manure between their ears to smell, they would recognize that "liberty and justice for all" comes directly from the Ten Commandments. If we follow the Ten Commandments, there will be "liberty and justice for all".

It would be one HELL of an improvment over where we're at now.

The point I am trying to emphasize is that the 10 Commandments comes from the Jewish religion.

I am looking for a high profile conservative to confront these Leftists for their intolerance and hatred for Jews in this instance.

The 10 Commandments are not part of the Christian religion. Jesus when asked which commandment was most important, said: "I give you but one commandment, love one another..."

It amazes me the lack of literary knowledge displayed in the public dialogue. There are so many advantages to exploit...

I don't know what's worse, more foreboding, or more discouraging: the crap in this newspaper article or some of the replies to it. I understand media being anti-Christian, anti-semite, and anti-American. But what makes some posters think that FR is a venue for their expressing those feelings? I don't get it.

PS---on behalf of most Tennesseans, I apologize for such pathetic b.s. originating in a newspaper here. I assure you that, other than for Dems, queers, welfare recipients, our useless government workers and legislators, this is NOT representative of the GOOD people of this state. Algore, the gays, the unions, the poverty pimps and the Dem machine---THEY are the ones here who opposed the Ten Commandments and support perversion. Take away those groups of people and Tennessee is overwhelmingly conservative, Godly, and American.

Sure, there's hatred in the 10 Commandments movement. Hatred against murderers, hatred against thieves, hatred against adulterers, hatred against liars.

Hatred against liars, huh? So when your little five year old daughter tells you she didn't eat the cookies -- your 10 Commandments righteously commands you to hate her? Or your hate when your spouse says, "Gee honey, your new hairdo looks, err, great" when in fact it looks horrible.

Hatred against adulterers, huh? Like when you find your teenage son has a Playboy stashed under the bed. You righteously fill your heart with hate against him. Right?

The 10 Commandments are not part of the Christian religion.

Well, every Christian sect claims to speak for the TRUE version, and therefore, for every other. But in fact many Christian fundamentalists accept the 10 Commandments and every word (as they interpret them) of the Old Testament, including the prohibition against the wearing of mixed threads, the isolation of females when they are "unclean" every month, the command to murder homosexuals, etc etc etc.

Sure they're not Christians -- says you. They say they are. They say you aren't.

What, that FR isn't a Christian Fundamentalist Revival Meeting pretending to be a site for the opponents of massive government?
