Bin Laden Alive And Well Says Expert
Terror mastermind Osama bin Laden is alive and recruiting fresh support in Britain and Europe, says an expert on al Qaeda.
The Saudi-born militant was the author of a defiant message posted last week on an al Qaeda website, claims Dr Rohan Gunaratna, a world authority on Islamic terrorism.
The statement in Arabic was posted last Friday in response to criticism levelled at al Qaeda for its role in the September 11 terrorist attacks, Dr Gunaratna said.
It stated: "We don't care about Western public opinion because it is for the Western people and in any case backs Western governments.
'Serious decision'
"Therefore it should not be a matter of concern for us whether western public opinion turns against us or not. We did this operation not for human kind but for Allah."
Dr Gunaratna, who is based at St Andrews University, Fife, claims that from the style of the message and the way in which it was issued it is very clear that it is from Osama bin Laden himself.
"It's a very serious decision for a terrorist group to admit to its role in an attack and that can only come from the very top. Only Osama bin Laden could authorise that," he added.
Dr Gunaratna said that the message, which featured prominently on the website, had bin Laden's "signature all over it".

Sounds like a bit of Islamic logic to me. It could be true that the decision to admit responsibility for the attack could come only from the top. But if Bin Ladin is dead, then presumably somebody else is sitting at the top. Quod erat demonstrandum?
I agree. The better descriptions is, "Osama's statements are still with us". Gees, this guy left a ton of videos and statements to be released in case he has a hurry-up meeting with his reserved virgins.

You mean he is still outside the gate, not inside. Now that is a big disappointment ! :).
