Nevada state lawmakers approved the mushroom cloud design last year.

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Even as Nevada officials fight against their state becoming the nation's nuclear waste dump, authorities are offering license plates depicting a nuclear blast.

The fund-raising plate, which honors Nevada's atomic past, has been criticized as ill-timed and inappropriate. Others don't mind the idea of cars with mushroom-cloud license plates sharing roads with tractor-trailers hauling radioactive waste.

No, this isn't something the People's Republic of California would memorialize - they'd pick something meaningful like, ummmmm, hell I don't know - there's too many wierd things there to pick from without starting a huge new thread to just cover part of them.

Too bad a person would have to actually live in NV to get those plates. But citizens in the middle east can probably have some like them next year, since we'll be doing some above ground testing there.

Beware of these plates.

They have an embedded GPS locator device that the Nevada supreme court just ruled that law enforcement can place on your vehicle without warrant or any other such troublesome paperwork.

More than 100,000 workers helped develop the nation's nuclear arsenal in Nevada, and more than 800 fell ill for their efforts.

This seems to have just been gratuitously thrown in for no reason except for some "nuclear bad" propaganda.

What exactly did the 800 "fall ill" of?

Why is it unusual that less than 1% of a given population should "fall ill" over a period of time?

Pure unadulterated bovine excrement.

That's kind of redundant since they have already inserted a 'GPS locater device' right up your tailpipe.

...right up your tailpipe...

So THAT's what that rattling noise is.
But won't the heat cause it to melt, or it's battery to leak, or something?

"NEVADA: Home of the Legal Brothel"

I wanna see the artwork. Anything beats the cutesy-wutesy lighthouses and whales that the New England states love to charge an extra $25.00 bucks for.
