(IsraelNN.com) Foreign Ministry officials are fuming over the remarks made on Thursday by United Nations Mideast envoy Terje Larsen regarding the PA autonomous city of Jenin. Larsen described what he called the horrific site in detail, comparing to an area following an earthquake, speaking of the dark day in Israels history as a result of the actions of the IDF during Operation Defensive Shield.
Foreign Ministry officials questioned why Larsen did not take the trouble to investigate any of the reports, opting to accept information from PA sources without any Israeli verification. They ask why he failed to mention the reason for the military incursion in his disturbing report and the fact that homes were booby-trapped and in most cases, blown up by their own bombs. Ministry officials questioned where Larsen and his humanitarian colleagues were when homicide bombers blew up the Dolphinarium Disco in Tel Aviv, the massacre at the seder service in the Park Hotel in Netanya and when the Sbarro Restaurant was blown up in Jerusalem.
Ministry officials also recalled the unacceptable behavior of Larsen during the incident involving the UNs withholding information and videotapes pertaining to three soldiers whom were abducted and held by Hizbullah, adding his attitude towards Israel is quite clear.
Former Army Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Dan Shomron added that the incursion was not only justified, but also necessary; pointing out that the army conducted itself in a most humanitarian fashion in light of heavy resistance. Shomron also mentioned that Larsen ignored the fact that army forces repeatedly called on Jenin residents to come out unarmed and leave the area. He explained that while most did, many remained behind, opting to fight and take the consequences.
NOTE: 23 homicide bombers came from Jenin.
This double standard is really F***ed.
