***Looks Like Yasser Is On The Way Out***
CNN | Stardate: 0204.17

Posted on 04/17/2002 2:35:50 AM PDT by The Wizard

Listening to what happened at today's meeting between Yasser and Powell it sounds like Arafat got the word that his time is over.......

GWB is a man of his words.....Arafat allowed homicide bombers to act while Colin Powell was in the area, and it looks like they told Yasser that you don't screw around with GWB.....

This ain't Arafat's hillbilly skirt chasing, woman raping buddy

I'm only watching CNN right now because they're live. CNN is giveing glowing praise to Arafat, so we know he's in trouble.

I heard the CNN types say that Arafat was shaking and raging insanely about how intolerable what Israel was doing was. He kept talking about 'that church' in Bethlehem that Israel has surrounded he couldn't even remember the name. Apparently he flipped out entirely on Powell, which is good, Powell can't expect any chance of Arafat acting rationally now. The news conference is coming up, expect Powell not to say much.

Well a touch of (un)reality always helps a rational military mind I guess. I will comment on the news conference here if no one posts a news conference thread. Now they are saying Powell will not be meeting with Mubarak. So much for the 'Peace Process'. It is time to restart the 'War Process'.

I enjoy the thought of Arafat shaking and fuming and losing his memory. Maybe he'll have a few more days like that...;-D

top Arafat adviser Saeb Erekat expressed disappointment that Powell had not been able to engineer a full Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank. . . "The situation is very grave," he said. "I don't know if we have a Palestinian Authority anymore."

This is from Kattrack's thread on the end of the meeting. If THEY don't think that there is a PA, why should we be dealing with what doesn't exist?

And another good question is whether the world might be better off without a PA? Maybe we ought to start over on the whole process. And this time, let's NOT choose a known terrorist as a national leader...!

Well, if there ISN'T a PA anymore, the question is now moot, right. Works for me.

Arafat is like Saddam; they seem to want him to just go away, but he's still there. I have doubts about GWB being able to do much about the situation in Israel. GWB is still wobbling. How can he support Arafat and retain credibility on the US war on terrorism?

Bush Waives Provisions 1987 Anti Terrorism Law "in the national interest"

President Bush, in the "national interest", has just waived provisions of the 1987 anti terrorism bill which prohibit funding of terrorist organizations. Funding of the PLO to continue "in the national interest".

The Palestinians have just got their butt kicked from side to side, so kicking them out of D.C. doesn't really do anything. It's better to save that leverage for punishment in the future.

Arafat is not kept in power by Bush or Powell. Arafat is kept in power by the other Arab dictators and despots, under pressure from their 'street' who, in turn, apply pressure on the U.S. and others to recognize Arafat as the man in power. He is also supported by his fellow Palestinians - I believe he's as popular among his kind as Bush is here.

We may not like what the Palis are doing but I have no doubts that Arafat would be re-elected if they had free elections today.

If the above premises are true, then Arafat is in power because his people want him there.

Sharron seems like a big fat buffoon, but he can go down in history as a major Israeli hero if he would only turn out the lites on yessir. Please, just an errant howitzer shell on his pointy little brainless head.
