Bring Back the Blue Border!

Posted on 03/31/2002 10:09:16 AM PST by Texaggie79

It appears that some blind FReepers have talked John into making the border a white background. This has caused several things. First, there is no division and the whole page is cluttered. Second, it looks very amateurish, while the blue border added a VERY professional look.

Don't worry, I'm not threatening to leave over it, like some whiners, but I just want to make a thread to see how other FReepers feel about the Blue border. I want to know who the blind FReepers are that think it actually looks better and would risk newcomers thinking that this is some rank amature site that has just started.

I was only on for a little while yesterday, but what I saw was nice. What I come to the site for is the news and the comments. It's nice to listen to people who share common views from around the nation.

Well, I liked it blue too Tex, but everyone else loves this so much, I can't imagine changing it back would be a good idea. Everyone is happy again. I think I heard some singing.

Now, if their were some very faint lines so my potatoes didn't touch my Salisbury steak... I would be happier. I hate it when my food touches.

The difference in colors between the 'home' page and the post pages makes it look like it is not the same site. I like the new colors and fonts- make the same page EXACTLY THE SAME WAY but with the new colors and fonts and I bet people will actually be haPPY

I want the U.S Flag border........back!

I wish people would stop whining and leave the forum alone......we knew John and Jim were doing the BETA......and that flag border was very nice. But it seems it upset someone....

Please put it back!

If we're talking about the blue-grey border in the left sidebar that replaced that faded flag graphic yesterday, I prefer it to the empty white field we now see.

The only complaint would be that particular blue might have not provided enough contrast with the white sidebar font for some eyes.

If that is true, then every web design statistic and every professionally designed website is wrong. I have taken classes on this. This is a absoloute no no in design. Check out Townhall.com or any other major website. This is proven fact through studies.

The current way the site looks now, if I was coming here for the first time, would be a major turn off. It is one big jumbled mess. You must have color division. It looks absolutely amateurish

I also loved the flag. It gave the page a very clean professional look.

The flag border looked cool, but it made the page scroll in a weird way - very jumpy. Everything is working better today, and I think it's because the flags are gone.

Dull is good. If you are looking at FR at work you want something that looks like a Google search result. The flag background can be spotted 20 feet away and screams 'recreational surfing' going on.

The contrast MUST be made with the navigation border. This is common knowledge in web design. I could teach a class on how not to layout colors in a page with this site now. white on white is putrid.

I too liked the blue (flag) border, but some of the chronic whiners complained that it took to long to down load. Of course they didn't know that it was a "background" that was repeatedly rendered by the browser, rather than some huge image. It was only 12k if I remember correctly.

I also liked the new "self posts" format. I'm sure it helps with bandwidth since you can see the detail in addition to the headlines. Good job John!

There is one very important point that no one seemed to point out yesterday in all of the bitching and moaning. FR is JimRob's web site and he can do whatever he damn well pleases - and should. He can solicit input, but the final decision is his. Every one else can just shut up.

The flag was just garnish, I don't care if that's gone, the BLUE border was an essential ingredient in telling the difference in the navigation and the center frame.
