See "Dude, where's my sidebar" where it used to be. It appears we have to cutomize our page somehwere. It will no longer be just breaking news. It says we can put whatever we want there.

Um, you just posted in it. Not that I understand why, but I have a breaking news sidebar on the right side of my screen. It looks different, but it's definitely there.

No. I think that's the instructions on how to make a Breaking News sidebar. I don't have that, I guess because I signed up for it when this was a Beta release a week or so ago.
Now I don't know where to set sidebar preferences, other than that link you're seeing (which I don't see anymore, LOL).

Instructions for getting "Breaking News."Go to the News/Activism forum. Go to the top of the page where you see in teeny print the word "Topics." Click on that.
You will then get a page that lists topics, with the instructions "Click on topic to subscribe." Scroll down to the place where you see "Hot Topics." Click on "Breaking News."
You have just subscribed to it, and it will then appear on your sidebar.
Hope this helps and was clear enough to understand!

Go to "topics" up in the right hand corner. Choose what you want in your sidebar. On the left hand side you will be asked to "subscribe" Bingo, you have a sidebar. I love it.

Naturally it took Miss Marple to figure it out! Thank you.

Look on the right hand side and follow the instructions given:
Dude, where's my sidebar? Sidebars have been overhauled. They are no longer restricted to Breaking News, etc, you can now place any topic from any forum into the sidebar. Topics listed in the sidebar are "subscribed."
To add a topic to the sidebar, select a topic from the Topics page. The lefthand column will provide a link "Click here to subscribe."

Go to News/Activism. (It's at the top left of Opening Page) When you get there Hit 'topics' (it's on the top of the page.) Pick the topic you want, (Extended News, Breaking News, Front Page etc.) and then there is a place on the Left sidebar that let's you add the topic to your right sidebar. Got that? LOL. This is more complex than the NY Times Sunday crossword puzzle. :)) Freepmail me if it does not work I'll try to explain further though I am not sure Freepmail is working.

OR Breaking News
Look on the LEFT sidebar for this:
You do not subscribe to this topic. Click here to subscribe.

disclaimer:
I'm just learning myself!
I think the 'Dude' thing disappears after you are subscribed to at least one sidebar topic. To subscribe to topics, hit the topic link at the top right of the Latest pages, Then click on a target topic (e.g. Breeaking News), then on the left under the 'United We Stand' banner click subscribe (it's tiny text).
Don't go crazy tring to keep the sidebars you subscibe to in order, that is determined by the one that has the latest article posted to it. :(
Good luck! (It's not that hard.)
To: Bahbah
Try my instructions...the thing you hit on the Left sidebar is Subscribe.
