I'm still waiting for someone to explain why CDs are the only technology that hasn't come down in price over the years. Pre-recorded VHS tapes were anywhere from $50-$150 about 15 years ago. Now they run around $10. CDs have stayed in the $16-18 range and not moved at all. Couple that with the fact that most CDs only have 3 songs on them worth listening too.....

Yes, consumers would be allowed to make personal-use copies. However if making that copy requires circumventing digital rights management encryption the consumer could still be charged for violating the DMCA and/or the new proposed bill.

This is a corporate-sponsored law. Hollings didn't write it: Disney and the MPAA wrote it and bribed him to present it, just like the DMCA. I wish someone would introduce legislation requiring that any law written or heavily lobbied for by a corporate interest carry the name of the corporation in its title.

A key senator introduced much-anticipated legislation Thursday that would prevent computers and other electronic devices from playing unauthorized music, movies or other copyrighted material.

Will someone please call me the day a law 'prevents' computers from playing unauthorized materials? Last I knew, computers didn't exactly care so much about laws. In fact, they care less than the people downloading the materials!!! Oh My!! what will we ever do. Ahhh but of course...We will have to buy a $5000 chip to put in our computer that keeps our sound from working. Then again, WindowsME can do that for the low low price of $98 or whatever.

Speaking of sharing...... I fiddled around with Napster back in its heyday. But since it is gone, I've only tried one other sharing site (I think it was WINMX or something). For some reason it was way too slow, and there wasn't enough selection due to the relatively small number of users. What are the Best sharing sites/programs out there today?

What are the Best sharing sites/programs out there today?

I use WinMX and have alot of success with it. But LimeWire, BearShare and the rest of the Gnutlla and Newtella clones are very popular.

Copywrited CDs and movies will be encoded with a special code. All Computers, VCRs, Camcorders, tape recorders, CD burners, etc. will be required to include a chip that prevents them from making copies of the specially encoded materials.

15 minutes later hackers will circumvent it.

Criminal penalties will then be applied to anyone who circumvents the coding or tells anyone else how to do it.
