Court Refuses Sex-Torture Plea Withdrawal

David Parker Ray Says He Was Pressured By Lawyer

SANTA FE, N.M. -- The state Court of Appeals Wednesday refused to let an Elephant Butte man withdraw his guilty plea in a sex-torture case.

David Parker Ray entered the plea last July to kidnapping, rape and other charges. He was sentenced to more than 223 years in prison.

He changed his mind a couple of months later, but a state district judge refused to let him withdraw the plea.

The appeals court said the lower court acted properly.

Ray argued in his appeal that his plea was not voluntary because of the medications he was taking, and because he was pressured by his lawyer.

Ray was accused of kidnapping and raping a woman in March 1999.

The crimes were discovered when she escaped his Elephant Butte trailer wearing only a dog collar and a chain.

Ray was also convicted of kidnapping and torturing another woman in 1996.

Thanks for the link. What a sick piece of slime. He's going to enjoy prison. They grow some pretty mean hombres in New Mexico and some of them live in state prison.

You know, the things that happened in the Santa Fe Prison Riot of the early 80's will sicken even the toughest person. I can't sit through more than 5 or 10 minutes of details at a time.
