In direct and wanton violation of their oaths of office, sixty U.S. Senators just voted to squash the First Amendment to the Constitution.

In other news, doctors have examined members of Congress and have found that none of them have back bones! Scientists around the world are calling it a scientific phenomenon.

Great, just great. Thanks a lot congress.

He knows that the congress have enough votes to overide his veto

In what kind of math is 60-40 a two-thirds majority?

I think the ban on critical ads is unconstitutional but regardless of what we think of CFR, the public doesn't seem to care much one way or the other. If Bush signs it or not I don't think it will affect his standing with the public.

That McCain makes my blood boil. Of course Bush WILL sign this.

I'd love to see all of the elected members of the House and Senate take a thorough exam on our US Constitution and if they fail, they pack their bags and go home.

Well, that's the beauty of out system of government..the three co-equal branches, and the checks and balances.....if you want an idea of prior thinking....read some biographies of Truman as pertains to his rationale for nationalizing the steel mills.....it's fascinating reading.....

Shall we just hope that Bush has the balls to veto it? Or should we plan on helping him "get the balls" by showing our support on a "street-corner-near-you"??

I suggest we mail him a pair. He's gonna sign it. Mark this post.

Thank GOD for the Supreme Court, who will ultimately over-turn this affront to Free Speech, just as they did the last time the dumbasses in Washington tried doing this.

But Sen. Phil Gramm, R-Texas, eagerly lent support to the opponents.

"This bill is blatantly unconstitutional," he said, referring to limitations placed on certain types of donations. The measure is "anti-democratic," as well, he said, and will concentrate power "in fewer and fewer and fewer hands."

Thank heaven Gramm at least has good sense.

Hey - Jim Robinson said (quote) "we need more McCain's". I have the thread. Let's all cheer now that our man McCain has succeeded.

In a sense he's right. You need control of both houses before you can accomplish your agenda (or obstruct the opposing party's agenda). That means putting enough Republicans in office to maintain a majority, then using primaries to replace RINOs with conservatives.

For the life of me, I can't understand how this bill got through both houses with so much support. Very disappointing.

BTW: I haven't had a chance to look, but did Fitzgerald vote for or against this bill?
