When a pair of activists known to compatriots as The Santa Cruz 2 were sentenced to prison in federal court in San Jose last week, it marked a rare victory in the hunt for the underground Animal Liberation Front.

Identified by the FBI as a terrorist group, the ALF and its sister organization, the Earth Liberation Front, claim their members committed 137 illegal eco-terror actions last year -- including 10 in California -- that caused $17.3 million in damage.

The slim redhead from New Jersey is the son of a...social worker for disturbed teenagers

LOL, sorry, I know it's tough being a parent, but someone needs to tell this one that social work begins at home.

My other question is, why is ALF or ELF or both allowed to keep a web site up? I'd think shutting that sucker down would be easy enough. And if (when) they get it up again, shut it down again, etc. It's only a matter of time before these idiots kill somebody.

Post from ELF's web site:

"The ELF realizes the profit motive caused and reinforced by the capitalist society is destroying all life on this planet. The only way, at this point in time, to stop that continued destruction of life is to by any means necessary take the profit motive out of killing."

Don't think that many of these loosers protesting in Seattle and New York could be involved? They also have instructions on Setting Fires With Electrical Timers - An Earth Liberation Front Guide Gee and they think thier not terrorists.

Taking into account their age and saying he believed they would not commit such crimes again, U.S. District Judge James Ware imposed minimum sentences.

Hey Mr. Judge, how about making an example out of these two little terrorists. 24 months with time off is next to nothing. There's no deterrent effect for other wannabees with these kind of sentences.

24 months for making a bomb ? 6-10 years would be more like it.

I have known many social workers over the years. Their kids are often misbaving brats, due to having been on the receiving end of the so-called "enlightened" parenting these types advocate.

On Feb. 12, the House Subcommittee on Forests and Forest Health is scheduled to hold a hearing about eco-terrorism. Environmental activists have called for nationwide protests against the hearings.

I hope they stage the protests, and that the FBI anti-terrorism unit is watching.

These are awfully light sentences for terrorists. Look at the people serving long sentences for having "bomb making material" and illegally having a handgun. If they had a swastika or a klan symbol tattoo or had any "hate publications" they would probably never get out of jail. Why were these terrorists allowed to dodge heavy sentences for their long strings of criminal activity and lack of cooperation? Seems as if someone is still going soft on eco-terrorism.

ANYONE approaching my home carrying a Molotov bomb had better be able to outun bullets-

One gallon of gasoline in a container with a wick is definitely a deadly weapon!

But then I also know of a local who got gas for a stalled car in a glass jug(didn't have a gas can) and stoppered it with a paper towel, and drove 60 mph back to the stalled vehicle (he also smoked cigars constantly).Amazingly he is still living.
