Houston Area Texans (H.A.T.) FreeRepublic Chapter - Meeting of 19 January 2002

The second meeting of the Houston area Freepers was held yesterday (Saturday, 19 January 2002) at The Mucky Duck at 3:00 PM. The following is a summary of that meeting.

As can be noted by the thread title, we now have a name and and acronym. We also have a logo. Kudos to antivenom for the time taken by her regarding thoughts on this issue.

The chapter name is Houston Area Texans (H.A.T.) FreeRepublic Chapter.
The chapter logo is a gray Texas cowboy hat, with the U.S. flag and eagle on the front. The chapter name is in red just below the hat.

22 people attended the meeting, including veterans of recent Houston area Freeps. That is a significant trend upward from the 5 attending the first meeting. Kudos to everyone who attended.

H.A.T. also has pro-temp officers, giving the chapter interim leadership until elections can be held. By unanimous consent, Anymouse is the chapter president, Humidston is the chapter email administrator, and PetroniDE is the chapter secretary.

H.A.T. also has an in-progress version of chapter by-laws. Those in attendance were giving the latest copy. There is still work to be done, but at least we have something preliminary.

Other topics of discussion:
- Looking to increase activity on Texas local board and Texas yahoo FR page. Recommend and encourage FR postings of local interest on those boards in addition to the national FR board.
- Chapter goals and guidelines.
- Official spokesman at Freeps. No official spokesman were assigned, but discussion regarding rotating based on issue expertise and experience of Freepers.
- Discussion regarding rotating meeting places around the Houston area.

			Anymouse is nominated for president pro tempore.
			Humidston nominates PetroniDE for secretary.
			Gloria, a FReeper-to-be, has a question for anymouse.
			Antivenom offers the name "Houston Area Texans", and has prepared a logo for us.
			HoustonCurmudgeon. . . doing what he does best!
			Cob1 offers an opinion.

			Our charming hostess. . . Hillary
			Some of us got a bite to eat. Some of us got a BIG bite to eat.
			The evening's entertainment gets set up, wondering when those wacky FReepers are going to leave.

Dana, thanks for taking such great meeting minutes and posting them. We all had a blast. It looks like the Houston HAT chapter is back in business with a vengence. :)

I was afraid of that. Thanks for warning me about the link problems (they worked fine fore me. :) I'll look around to see if I can post them elsewhere.

Once we get our H.A.T. FRN chapter forum set up, we can post photos there and link to them for posting to FR threads. Speaking of the chapter forum, can you send me a reply to the e-mail I sent before needing info. to fill out the form to get the forum set up?

Maybe a BBQ picnic in La Grange area in the Spring, when things warm up a little.

Of course HOT FReepers are always welcome to come on down to attend the HAT FReepers meetings (I figure I've banked a few trips to Austin that should be reciprocated. :)

Hopefully the Dallas/Ft. Worth FReeper chapter can get into this friendly Texas city rivalry by becoming a little more active. :)

We might even caravan up to the FReeper get together this Summer in Arkansas.
