Does anyone wonder where the Harry Potter train is going?

Now that so many parents and children are on the Potter train, does anyone wonder where it's going?

After all, it is a book about children attending a school for witches and wizards. In book four we see a character mutilating himself, cutting off his arm, in order to render a spell efficacious. And the author has promised that the final three books will become increasingly darker.

"Has she become legal since my post?"

- I think in 2006 she will be 18, another ideal Dorothy Stratton type candidate.
Just the right age for Hef to pluck for himself or to pass along to one within his inner circle of favored fellow pedophiles like Oliver Stone or Peter Bogdanovich.

Do you have a problem with witchcraft being used as the force to overcome evil?

**************

This is a nice hypothetical, unless, of course, you happen to believe witchcraft/magic is real.

I find your lack of faith... disturbing. (Sorry Darth... I just couldn't pass that one up)

Not yet. Born 15 April 1990. (God I feel old)

I know the feeling. It's fun to tell teenagers I know. "When I was your age, you were just born."

Nothing wrong with burning or destroying evil or worthless books. Some books (and videos) merit nothing but destruction.

I'm sure these guys would agree with you:

Yeah, but it's the bad guy -- the sniveling rat dude -- who cuts off his hand. Bad people do bad things, I don't see what the problem is.

I find it funny that this thread come out now when there is no new book or movie in the near future.

Harry Potter compares to a lot of stories but it compares to Star Wars most of all. Below is a link that details everything.

Or maybe most parents are able to explain to their children the difference between fantasy and reality, a distinction that many here have demonstrated an inability to grasp
AMEN

I'm DESPERATE to know where that train is going. JK Rowling is the richest woman on the planet - she needs to hire a flock of nannies to watch those kids for six months while she finishes Book 7. I'd vote for some food rewards per chapter finished, too.

Yeah, I know. I must not have been clear. I meant to say:

It is odd to find a thread from 2001 in the Breaking News section when there is no Potter book / movie coming anytime in the next year

Now this one is in breaking news, also from 2001

Harry Potter fans shocked at sexy start to film

I wonder if the mods can tell who's adding breaking news to these?

When you come to the local library to burn books, you'll find me there, too.

Actually I did burn some that I bought at the library booksale - they had some books of spells, and some hard core pornography, that had been donated. I bought them & took them home for kindling.

Oh, I would consider myself a "radical Christian" (ie. a Bible-believing, Conservative Fundamentalist Evangelical Christian) and I don't have a problem with the books. In my opinion, the magic serves as a plot device, just like the "Force" in Star Wars, or the mythology Tolkien created for the Lord of the Rings.

I understand how Christian parents would keep their own kids from reading the books. They have dedicated their children to the Lord and are conscience-bound to raise their children up to be men and women of Christ. If they feel these books violate that, then they are absolutely right in using their authority to keep their children from reading them.

However, this authority does not extend to other people's children, nor to other people's consciences.

No problem. They belonged to you, and were yours to dispose of as you wished.

I never read the books but the movies are about as evil as the care bears. If Harry potter is evil, then so is lord of the rings and im guess im doomed because I must have watched that Trilogy about 100 times and bought a 50" HDTV to watch it on.
