[history]
The phone line from Flight 93 was still open when a GTE operator heard Todd Beamer say: 'Are you guys ready? Let's roll'
Beamer, an Oracle Inc. executive from Hightstown, N.J., and others are being credited with foiling hijackers bent on crashing the Boeing 757 into what authorities say might have been a second target in Washington, D.C., possibly the Capitol or the White House.

Apologies if this has been posted. I missed and I've been spending way too much time around here. I figured if I missed then perhaps so had others.

Great story. These men deserve the Medal of Honor. They saved countless lives and sacrificed their own. May God bless them and their families richly and fully and may their kin be comforted to know what heroes these men were.

My sentiments exactly.

Hi there, John. What do we need to do to have these medals awarded? Is it in the works? I'm saving these articles for my son. It will illustrate so vividly what it is to be a man.
Best...

I believe you have to be in the military to get the Congressional Medal of Honor, and that civilians are awarded the Medal of Freedom.
It would be unprecedented to give the Medal of Honor to civilians, but they could give the guys honorary commissions in the Army posthumously, I suppose, if they wanted to.
I think that they first do what they do for any Medal of Honor; they first prove the actions indeed happened by gathering various reports and testimonies.
So far I've heard President Bush and Senator McCain speak about the incident as though they believe it happened. But it isn't actually "official" yet.

Mornin', friend =^)
Is it in the works?
I most certainly hope so, bootless. I can't think of a group of heroes more deserving than them.

Saw Lisa Beamer and Todd Beamer's father interviewed on NBC tonight. Very poignant and tear-filled. She said that Todd and the GTE operator said the Lord's Prayer together, he asked the Lord to forgive the hijackers for what they were doing, before he went after the hijacker. Tore me up. Remember Lisa Beamer and their young children in your prayers.

Thanks for posting this. It's an important lesson to all Americans. We cannot go meekly to the slaughter. Regardless of the odds, each of us must be willing to fight back in any situation that puts us individually or collectively at risk. I will not go quietly into the night, and neither should you!!
P.S. I never met him, but I'm proud to work for the same company as Todd Beamer. I only wish the other 7 employees we at Oracle Corp. lost (6 consultants working in the WTC and another consultant working nearby, a trained EMT who went into WTC after the attack to help) had been given the chance to stand up to their murderers. God Bless them all and protect their families.

May G_d bless 'em all!
These guys knew they were doomed due to phone calls with their loved ones.....That told them about the previous 2 suicide crashes into the WTC.
I am sure passengers on other planes would have fought back to if they knew it was a suicide mission

Those guys on flight 93 are my heroes!!!!! God bless their families. I do believe that a hijacking were to be attempted today, that the passengers would tear them limb to limb after seeing the WTC blow up.. Those guys in the first two hits had no way of knowing...WE DO!

A true hero and patriot.

I humbly salute the members of flight 93 for their bravery and sacrifice. Let us not forget.

We cannot go meekly to the slaughter. Regardless of the odds, each of us must be willing to fight back in any situation that puts us individually or collectively at risk. . . . because although it was a sneak attack this was not an act of war any more than Hitler's extermination camps were.
It was an obscenity, a tin-pot holocaust.
The apostles of hate decided not to live, and spent years getting up for the game. Beamer et al had the courage to live, the courage to recognize and accept grim circumstances made by hate, the love to lay life down.
The short straw was in his hand, and he knew it and fully did his duty. He and all his comrades. Todd Beamer and his comrades saw those toads' "courage" and raised them a prayer and a sacrifice of love. Whoso would dance in the streets, let them celebrate THAT.

When we do retaliate they should announce it operation "Lets Go". What a fitting tribute. I would hope that if I was in that situation I could do the same. What brave men.

I think the Medal of Honor is warranted for this one. Theyw ere not military, but under 10 USC Section 311, there might be enough room to swing it.
