Amid the aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) informed Members at a closed-door briefing Tuesday night that three commercial planes overseas had pressed their "terrorist button" and were still in the air as of 5:30 that evening.

Although someone on the plane had pressed the device designed to indicate a hijacking, Hastert reported that there was no foul play involved on the planes and that intelligence officials were simply responding to "false alarms," ROLLCALLDAILY reports...
