House blocks Greene’s resolution to oust Johnson
The Hill ^ | 05/08/24 5:49 PM ET | BY MYCHAEL SCHNELL

The House on Wednesday overwhelmingly voted to protect Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) from a conservative coup, torpedoing an effort by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) to oust the GOP leader from the top job.

The chamber voted 359-43-7 on a motion to table Greene’s motion to vacate, preventing the removal resolution from hitting the floor for a vote.

The final vote — which was widely expected amid bipartisan opposition to the ouster gambit — deals a major blow to Greene, who filed her measure more than a month ago and had threatened to trigger it ever since.

It means Johnson, who won the gavel in October following the ouster of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), will remain in the top job. But the vote puts him in the precarious position of being a GOP Speaker propped up by Democrats, which could earn him the ire of conservatives.

In brief remarks delivered shortly after Wednesday’s vote, Johnson thanked his colleagues for their support.

“I appreciate the show of confidence from my colleagues to defeat this misguided effort,” he said. “That is certainly what it was.”

President Trump said that ousting johnson would be a mistake given the 1 vote margin in the house. I totally agree with him.

I agree. I think Johnson is a deep state slimeball, but I think we should get Trump and as many other MAGA-minded candidates in office in November before we begin trying to clear the dead wood.

The damage is going to be much the same whether Johnson is Speaker or not, and I am now in the camp of those who view it as a distraction and not constructive at this time.

I know others feel, and I get it, but I think we need to just put this on a back burner.

“Her motion accomplished nothing but to leave Johnson beholden to the Democrats and RINOS for his survival.”

Ha, ha, ha, there has not been a vote pass in the house that did not have more Democrats than republicans for it since last October. Johnson is currently the Democrat Speaker of the House.

“Republicans have to be fighting the Radical Left Democrats, and all the Damage they have done to our Country.”

Sorry Trump, but Republicans are lock step with those “democrats” who are damaging the country.

“You’ll never get me to change my mind regarding the waste of tax payer dollars fighting proxy wars against Russia, China or Iran.”

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Answer:
WE didn’t start those proxy wars you are talking about. The Russia-Hamas-Iran-China-North Korea Alliance started the proxy war against the USA. Thus, we can’t ignore it, it’s technically and politically impossible to do so.
Action means Reaction.

If Antifa gangs regularly attack your neighbors homes, committing arson, rape, plundering and killing many of them... as a Christian do you just sit by in your living-room reading a book while avoiding to call the police (preserving the police budget) and praying that Antifa won’t be reaching your own home...?
According to your logic, as long they don’t reach YOUR house... who cares about what Antifa does to the neighbors...

Trump did in fact initiate the whole process of helping Ukraine with lethal weapons. He REVERSED the previous Obama policies which refused to send ANY weapons at all to Ukraine. Trump often denounced those Obama policies, criticizing him for only sending “pillows and blankets”.

So when it comes to Ukraine, you are clearly supporting the Obama philosophy.
I and supporting the Trump philosophy.

Remember this:
Trump had a long conversation with Mike Johnson days before the 90 billions dollar aid for Israel/Ukraine/Taiwan/ was approved. It happened at Mar-a-Lago.
Johnson got Trump’s go ahead to make this budget go through.

Trump approved those +90 billions.

"WE didn’t start those proxy wars you are talking about."

We shouldn't have been sucked into them then. Our entry only lengthened those wars, draining our economy and resources, and ending the lives of many an American member of the military...all for nothing.

You don't seem to get it, and it's the one thing you've failed to respond to, and that is the billions of unaccounted for cash that has been sent to Ukraine. You keep pointing out that Trump sent weapons. If we had surplus weapons to send, without depleting our own inventory, then I have no problem with it. But if those weapons were taken from our current inventory, then I do have a problem with that, because it weakens our ability to defend ourselves. What you refuse to address is the unlimited tax payer dollars sent, that isn't required to be accounted for on the other end. I don't want any tax payer cash funding a foreign government, or a war we are no part of. Get it now?

And her “allies” were AOC and The Squad:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/interactive/2024/05/08/house-speaker-vote-mike-johnson-motion-to-vacate/

She comes out and claims “Democrats are who saved Johnson” when only 11 Republicans voted for this - she was the one trying ally with the Democrats to get a majority vote. And previously she was fighting against removing McCarthy.

“What it shows is that 196 Repukes sided with RATS and are stabbing their constituents in the back.”

My Representative is Republican Jack Bergman and I, as one of his constituents, support his vote to slap down Greene. Bergman will win reelection in a landslide this fall which will show that Bergman is doing what the majority of his constituents want.

They split my NY-22 district in 2022, and we got a first term GOP Congressman named Brandon Williams. Besides voting regularly to send money to Ukraine, he voted for the last expenditure Bill to keep the government open, voted twice to keep FISA, and would have voted to send more money to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, but he was absent for that day’s vote, attending the funerals of two police officers murdered in Syracuse, NY. And he voted to squash Greene’s attempt to remove Johnson. I won’t be voting for him again in November. Your Mr. Bergman voted to keep FISA. I wouldn’t be too happy with him over that if I were you.
