Texas Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar and his wife were indicted Friday on charges of conspiracy and accepting nearly $600,000 in bribes from foreign entities, the Justice Department announced.
Prosecutors allege Cuellar and his wife, Imelda Cuellar, began accepting the roughly $600,000 in bribes beginning as early as December of 2014 from an oil and gas company owned by Azerbaijan's government as well as a bank headquartered in Mexico City.
While Cuellar's wife allegedly propped up sham front companies on the promise of providing consulting services to the two companies in order to launder the payments, she "performed little to no legitimate work under the contracts" all while Rep. Cuellar was promising to use his office for the benefit of Azerbaijan's foreign policy as well as influencing "high-ranking" officials in the executive branch to benefit the Mexico City bank, according to the indictment.

The payments to the couple went through a Texas-based shell company owned by Imelda Cuellar and two of the couple’s children, according to the indictment. That company received payments from the Azerbaijan energy company of $25,000 per month under a “sham contract,” purportedly in exchange for unspecified strategic consulting and advising services.
“In reality, the contract was a sham used to disguise and legitimate the corrupt agreement between Henry Cuellar and the government of Azerbaijan,” the indictment states.
Imelda Cuellar sent a falsified invoice to the Azerbaijan energy company’s Washington, D.C., office under the agreement, stating her work was complete.
“In fact, Imedla Cuellar had performed little or no legitimate work under the contract,” the indictment says.
Sounds like Russian collusion.

Any Republican who is even accused of doing about 1/10 of this would be expected (and pressured) to resign immediately.
What will Cuellar do? My guess is he’ll have a nice chat with Senator Bob Menendez, while in the meantime the media will drop the story within the next few days.
If (and ONLY if) Cuellar is seen as being detrimental to Rat election chances in November, he will suddenly be forced “do the right thing” whether he likes it or not.
The filing deadline and primary are long past in Texas — does Texas law allow the Rats to pull a “Torricelli” if Cuellar departs?
And if not, will some corrupt Democrat judge let them do it anyway?
when they are elected every member of congress, the presidents cabinet and the pres, vp and wh staff must file a thorough financial statement and undergo a financial background check. They should be made to explain their current wealth. When they leave office they do the same.
