Yes, we need Trump no matter the VP. Having a VP who increases the chance of getting Trump is a positive. But, there is an awful lot that needs doing for just 4 years, and much that needs to stick post-Trump. Having a VP who can carry Trump’s ball post ‘28 and reinforce his changes, rather than a non-true believer or a weakling who lets them be undone, is also essential. Remember the harm from Reagan making the ‘safe’ pick of Bush the Elder. Pappy reverted to his pre-VP form and squandered Reagan’s legacy.

So who does Trump need this year? Conservatives or a moderate? I observed elsewhere that I think he’ll pick Tulsi Gabbard, a moderate, a woman, a minority, and a veteran. Okay, I’m skipping the obvious deficiency that she is not a natural born citizen, not a conservative, not a republican, but she probably aligns closer with Trump overall than most other potential VP candidates.

Doubtful that Trump might pick someone to be the 2028 nominee. I am confident that that goes to DeSantis. Trump needs someone that specifically helps him against Biden, Newsome, Harris, abortion, etc. Those are the critical issues to draw in independents and wayward Dems.

Its not the politicians. They are as they ever were, anywhere at any time. They are a human type.

The American problem is that of the corruption and degeneracy of the people.

Not a bad choice. She was in the military so she should be loyal to Trump. She'll probably see this as doing service to her country. As long as she's not too ambitious like Hillary, it should be fine.

Good luck with that. The Democrats will just run out the clock if somehow Donald Trump manages to win the election this time.

Trump and DeSantis played the world with a fake rivalry and fake fights and the ruse worked flawlessly. The Art of Trump.

I agree.

His number one criteria should be absolute loyalty to him.

However, there should be a co-equal criteria, and should be their ability to take over should something happen to him.

Normally, and never before would I have suggested personal loyalty as a high criteria. That sounds too much like building a “cult of personality” like building a Praetorian Guard. But these are not normal times.

I don’t have any confidence that any VP choice that will be acceptable to The Deep State will be able to have any loyalty towards Trump. Period. As I said, these are not normal times. Anyone the Deep State would approve of will be hostile to conservatives, conservative values, and Trump himself.

Trump needs someone who he can talk straight to and confide in. I expect, if he is re-elected, this will be an important criteria in any case. He needs someone trustworthy he can bounce things off with full expectation of confidentiality, and I think there are people who he can consider who would have the good of the country co-equal in their minds.

The alternative is to hire someone who is untrustworthy who is oriented towards the Deep State.

She’d be a great one-and-done VP as she couldn’t win presidency as either a Republican or a Democrat, which leaves 2028 wide open for DeSantis.

Yes but in that scenario, the Democrats will have the advantage in 2028.

Im doubtful of Tulsi Gabbard, but come on, she was born in a US territory (American Samoa) and both her parents were US citizens by birth (her mom is from Indiana). Objecting on the basis of “natural born” is going very extreme here.

American Samoans are US nationals not natural born citizens. There have been court cases in recent years about this, even pending legislation, but nothing has been done to change the status of people born in American Samoa.

Obama has exploded the myth of NBC requiring both NBC parents with a nuke. It is gone, kaput, horse out of the barn situation. But people who dislike others with foreign heritage will continue to display their true colors.
