13 per cent of the total homeless population in THE USA are veterans.
Very easy to find that statistic.
Yet according to the VA only 2-6% (depending on branch) of all veterans experience homelessness. 80% of vets own homes compared to 60% of non vets.
It’s all about who counts the numbers and what questions they ask and if they verify the answers.
Case in point. The Point In Time survey used to count the homeless will ask the homeless person if they are a vet, but no verification is done. In counts where verification is done the number drops.
Vets go to the head of the line in almost all help programs, yet this magical 13% does not show up, because programs require documentation
See how that works.
To put it another way...
13 per cent of the total homeless population in THE USA CLAIM to be veterans
