Florida Gov. DeSantis Blasts House Speaker, GOP Who Voted For Ukraine Aid With No Border Concessions
Tampa Free Press ^ | April 24, 2024 | Liam Edgar

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis on Tuesday blasted House Speaker Mike Johnson and GOP lawmakers in Congress for handing President Joe Biden a win on foreign aid, especially in Ukraine, without wringing any new concessions from Democrats to secure America’s border.

Last weekend’s move by Johnson, said DeSantis, “was a real, real failure" that grossly betrayed GOP voters.

Many conservatives have leveled Johnson in recent days for going along with the $95 billion package that funded Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan — just as Biden and congressional Democrats wanted.

DeSantis ripped Johnson for forgetting the people who placed their faith in him and the rest of the GOP.

House Republicans “were sent there, and the No. 1 issue that our voters wanted them to address is the southern border and the massive influx of foreigners by the millions coming into this country,” said DeSantis.

“We don't know who these people (immigrants) are, and they (Republicans) basically just surrendered on the border,” he continued. “They now have no leverage to do anything on the border.”

The governor pointed out that Johnson and the GOP could have forced Biden to accept tougher border security measures in exchange for the aid for his cherished Ukraine and the others.

“I mean, it's just pathetic. I was really, really disappointed to see that they basically capitulated entirely on the border. And at this point, you're not gonna see anything done on the border for the rest of this year,” the governor added. “I think it was a real, real failure.”

The DSDS patients should waste less energy on their Florida Governor Obsession and more on getting their guy elected.

How is approving the Ukraine funding, without tying it to any funding for the US border, “basic math?”

Lighten up, Francis. Trump is in an election with the final voting coming about six months from now. He’s facing fire from many directions… he doesn’t need to see fire coming from FReepers also.

I see it this way, Trump has to dance on the head of a pin because he is running for Potus in a party that is filled with fair weather friends and outright enemies. We can say the truth without consequence. Johnson is a traitor and a dirty coward. We can only hope Trump sees this but is playing the long game.

DeSantis abandoned election security, mass censorship, weaponization of govt, J6/gulag yet he is a conservative!

Ignoring historic lawlessness and disorderliness is conservative.

The low road DeSantis supporters alienate significantly more voters than they attract.

This stooge of the billionaire class will never hold a national office.

Like to look at the big picture......

Doubt sending more 'aid' to the border would help with security. Just more money to be given to illegals.

They could have simply said put the remain in Mexico policy back in place, etc, countless things could have been asked for. Instead, they completely gave in.

With Johnson and the Republicans folding like a cheap suit over border security, I feel the same way.

Trump has no problem criticizing people that he endorses. But Trump was too cowardly to criticize Johnson’s deal.

The very MINIMUM Trump could have done is said the bill should have included US border security.

Instead, he endorsed Johnson after the betrayal.

And the blind Trump supporters will just take it up their butts and ask for another.

DeSantis has true conservative principles and puts them into action.

Trump has no problem talking truth about the border and if he thinks talking border security will jeopardize his election chances, then he has already lost.

Just what advantage does it give him to say what is true. The real question should be why aren’t more Republicans stating the obvious.

Included in the [Ukraine] bill was roughly $4 billion for “migration and refugee assistance,” which is doled out to NGOs operating along the border and tasked with giving funds and travel assistance to illegal immigrants who have been released from federal custody. In other words, Johnson isn’t just neglecting the border crisis, he’s actively funding it.

Then Trump comes out and endorses Johnson.

With candidates like this, we may as well leave Biden in office. At least the end will come quicker.
