Dr. Phil Left Speechless After Real Estate Agent Claims That Squatting Is Justified by Colonization
New York Post ^ | April 19, 2024 | Alexander Hall

Dr. Phil spoke with property owners about how squatters are using legal loopholes to occupy properties, but one real estate agent argued it can be justified because of a history of “colonization.”

Wednesday’s episode of “Dr. Phil Primetime” featured one guest named Kristine, a real estate agent who “doesn’t think adverse possession is immoral,” but believes that “people with no housing dying from the elements is immoral.” According to the Legal Information Institute, adverse possession is where a “person in possession of land owned by someone else may acquire valid title to it, so long as certain requirements are met, and the adverse possessor is in possession for a sufficient period of time.” The requirements and period of time vary by state and city.

In her introduction on the show, Kristine argued that there are “multi-million dollar projects, and they’re just abandoned.” She added that she believes the land of those abandoned projects can be reclaimed. She also noted she is working with a client who is “trying to occupy a property” that’s around 300 or 500 acres.

Why isn't anybody squatting on all of Bill Gates' land? Or the land owned by China?

The “real estate agent” should be identified and her activities reported to whatever state foolishly licensed her. No way are her views consistent with ethical standards. Her IQ must be super low.

And we USED to hang horse thieves. If we go back to the loosey-goosey ways of Spanish and English colonization...can we go back to killing thieves without a trial?

That's a lot of land for someone who's only looking to build a shack sufficient to keep him from "dying from the elements".

Squatters should die from the elements. Specifically the element lead, in the form of small pieces moving quite rapidly.

That’s a hell of a thing for a real estate agent to say. Bet it adversely affects her business. I know I wouldn’t hire her.

Do squatters pay a commission if you identify a property they successfully squat in?

Something tells me she won’t be getting commissions from anybody anymore after this interview.

Adverse possession laws require the owner to be aware of someone using your property as their own and not doing anything about it for an extended period of time. For instance in PA that period is 20 years.

In Florida if someone ‘squats’ in your home you just call the police like you would if a burgher broke in - then the police come in less than 10 minutes and take the squatter away.

No lawyers, no wait, no negotiation, no worries. Just call the cops and it’s over.

“A white woman, of course. Only white liberal women are this stupid.”

Having spent years in the real estate profession in my younger days, I can say that Adverse Possession laws do make sense*. The problem was that the laws were written in a time when white men ran society and intended to be interpreted by white men, so they weren’t designed to hold up against DEI, so now we need new laws (and need to hope they’re actually enforced).

*an example is a neighbor who builds a garage a driveway a foot or two over the property line - if no one complains for 5 or 10 years, he gets that bit of land added to his parcel...rather than have to re-build the driveway.

I would report her to local Real Estate Commission & Board for expulsion & permanent loss of license.

Exactly.

Let some squatters squat on her property.

If she calls the police, they should laugh and walk away.
