Leading Russia Watcher in China Makes Surprise Ukraine War Prediction
Newsweek ^ | 16 April 1963 | Micah McCartney

Posted on 04/16/2024 3:21:43 PM PDT by Apparatchik

A Chinese specialist on Russia has delivered a grim forecast for Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine: that it is doomed to fail.

Peking University professor Feng Yujun is also cooling on the future of Beijing-Moscow relations, writing in a recent op-ed in The Economist that the two nations have diverging visions of the future of global affairs.

“If only FR were so open minded and free…”

It used to be. I miss those days.

I also miss the days when hating America here got a zot.

Oh no!

RBK-500 strikes were carried out on New York (formerly Novohorodske) between Horlivka, Avdeevka, and Toretsk, where the UAF is concentrating forces.”

There arent many “independent thinkers” in China allowed to publish like this, against a matter of state policy. This seems rather like an official or semi-official trial balloon.

Newsweek here is just reporting that the Chinese fellow published an article in the Economist.

And checking the Economist I see this article listed. Now, I dont particularly like the editorial stance of the Economist these days but the point still stands, that this article is there.

https://www.economist.com/by-invitation/2024/04/11/russia-is-sure-to-lose-in-ukraine-reckons-a-chinese-expert-on-russia

So Newsweek is correct.

Do the work.

Depends on whether it was an independent terrorist act, or the act of a recognized state.

“If the Russian occupiers manage to capture this city, they will have the opportunity to launch an offensive on Kostiantynivka, Druzhkivka, Kramatorsk and Sloviansk," said Lieutenant Colonel Nazar Voloshyn, a Ukrainian army spokesperson.

Chasiv Yar is a strategically important city located 10 kilometers from Bakhmut. It is situated on commanding heights, advantageous for defense and gives control over the surrounding area. It is currently under the full control of Kyiv but also under sustained attack from Russian troops.

“This is the dominant height in the region, and its control will allow the Russian invaders, if they achieve it, to significantly simplify the advance in the direction of Kostiantynivka and the direction of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk,” Voloshyn said.

Isn’t this like the 15th or 20th “major advance”?

The Russians have been grinding the Ukrainian army into dust. That's THE OBJECTIVE, you numbskull.

Russia hasn't been on a major offensive for more than a year is still gaining ground as the Ukrainian frontlines collapse.

If you can't figure out that the Russians are likely preparing for a major offensive by destroying multiple power plants, including in Kharkiv, you're even dumber than I think you and I already think delusional moron.

Every inch of territory Russia controls will remain in its control after this war is over.

You Putinisatas are very good cheerleaders for Russia, but, your predictions are totally wrong, since, Russia does NOT have the capabilities for a prolonged war; Russia is economically poor, and it has depleted its war-fighting resources and military personnel. The only thing that keeps Putin and Russia fighting, is the expected loss of prestige around the world, and the expected breakup of the Russian federation after the war is over with Russia having lost.

No need to wager on something that is unknowable, and your predictions are just hopes, with no logic whatsoever behind it.

If you want to wager, call up that Chinese professor, who will actually be better informed than you.

And, guess what...

when Putin finally gives up his and your dream of taking over Ukrainian territory, Ukraine will take back every inch of what was taken illegally by Russia with their ill-conceived invasion.

Use some common sense, if you have any.

There is information in any source. Even if the narrative that source is pushing doesnt agree with you, there is still information in it, that helps create an accurate world view.

To be a proper analyst of this stuff, it helps to be dispassionate.

How can Ukraine be “losing ground” now when there hasn’t been any ground at all left for well over a year?

Look at map, numbskull.

Ukraine was on the offensive most of last year AND LOST GROUND. Meanwhile, Russia has been on a major offensive for more than a year but IS grinding the Ukrainian military into powder.

Yet, despite not being on a major offensive, Russia keeps gaining ground as Ukraine's frontline keeps weakening because of lack of manpower.

You and your fellow Zeepers are most dishonest, stupid and delusional posters in the history of this website.

Ukraine will be surrendering and moron like you will be proclaiming victory. Ukraine lost everything east Dnieper river but they didn't take Kiev so they won!

You're less credible than Babylon Bee parody.

And the funny part is that he unequivocally believes what Newsweek says. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I wondered about that, is he just an old retired KGB agent working security for a Russian oligarch somewhere in the Hamptons?

Most of ‘em are a bunch of bitter old foreigners looking for a way to glom what they see as their little share of US dollars, courtesy of that diapered dimwit in the White House.

They make the “Two Wild and Crazy Guys” from the early SNL days look like suave geniuses.

I see it as a war of attrition; Ukraine just does not have the material or manpower to outlast the energy-funded invaders, unfortunately.

Well, just so you know, I have not read Newsweek since it stopped publishing hard copy. I find it passingly strange that anyone would read it on line.

It is as you say, they dream of the good old days:
