Sorry, sick of this myth.
Australians have not been disarmed. There are more guns in private hands in Australia now than at any time in our history.
We’ve never had anywhere near as many per capita as the US, but this misleading crap that we’re disarmed is really getting annoying.
Yes, it would have been nice if somebody near by had been carrying - but the odds are they wouldn’t have been thirty or forty years ago either. We’ve never gone around with six shooters on our hips. It’s not part of Australian culture and never has been regardless of what the law says.
Well, for the six murdered and the others badly wounded there were inarguably not enough guns in their vicinity.

So how does the percentage of households with a gun in it compare to before you guys were disarmed, and how many of the guns are pistols?
I’d love to be wrong and for Aussies to enjoy loads of freedom! You may well have superior knowledge on this, but quick net searches tell about 0.5 to 1 M gun buy backs or confiscations in Australia starting in the late 90s, that all guns are required to be registered, all gun owners are required to be licensed and to have an approved excuse to have a license—which doesn’t include self defense. Gun owners must be members of an approved gun club (at least that should reduce accidents from stupidity and lack of proper training) and may only transport their guns to and from home, gun club or gunsmith. Don’t think 2nd enthusiasts would be enthusiastic about any of that coming here. I presume internet searches on ‘Aussie gun controls’ are going to produces links mixed with all the same biases and searches for ‘US gun controls,’ so what I read deserves to be taken with lots of salt. And I don’t claim to possess enough personal expertise to sort the truth from the lies. But what I’ve heard coming from Down Under over the past couple decades regarding its domestic politics, on multiple policy subjects, doesn’t fit with what I’d heard about the country, and liked, the prior couple decades.
Sorry, sick of the myth every American has a six shooter on their hip. Out of just over 3000 counties almost all murder and violent crime occur in just 75 counties. Do you have any idea who makes up the majority of the criminal element in those counties? That’s right, black people. If you delete American blacks and Hispanics from U.S. crime statistics it is the lowest in the world. Crime is always driven by culture and American black culture celebrates the worst subhuman filth of their kind.

I walk around my property with a 9mm semi-auto pistol, and as I type this there is a .308 semi-auto “assault rifle” within reach of my desk.
My daughter recently flew to Sydney and had a wonderful cruise around Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand. She said it looked so clean and safe, no people living on sidewalks, low crime, nice people. A world traveler, she thought Melbourne was the most beautiful city she’d ever seen.
So where in the world did this creep come from?
And btw, her husband, who recently died, was the sheriff and she’s the best shot at the shooting range they have.
